PARTS NUMBER

Hello Jerry;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You need to provide a model number for me to give you the gasket part number and price. The model number is on a label in your fresh food section on the upper side wall.

You have a bottom freezer, Right? These bottom freezer drawers are had to seal all of the time. They can get off track and not seal properly. It is not uncommon for them to ice up around the door gasket.

Lets try this first:

1.) Clean the gasket.

2.) With a hair dryer and a kitchen spatula, Heat the gasket while pulling gentle out on the gasket, to expand the gasket.

3.) Run a piece of paper between the gasket and the freezer front. If you can do this, then you still do not have a solid seal.

My frigidaire automatic defrost upright freezer gets ice build-up at the top right at the front any suuggestions

This is just a general answer but it may mean that the door seal is leaking. Try running a dollar bill under the seal to see if that area is looser than the rest of the door seal.
Look inside the freezer for model number.

We have an imperial upright ''commercial grade'' freezer. The top shelf has 2 inches of ice on it. The rest of the freezer is not cold. Door seal is ok. freezer is currently unplugged and defrosting.

just to be sure that your door is sealing properly, put a flashlight into the freezer and turn off all of the lights in the room to see if there are any openings in the seal. Iam suggesting you this coz sometimes a small opening may pass our eyes easily....

if the door is sealing properly......
If this is the type of freezer where the shelves are the evaporator coils, the coolant goes through the shelves(tubing) and the formation of frost is normal and has to be manually defrosted. All the shelves should be as cold asd the top one. The fact that just one has any frost may indicate that it is low on freon. If this is the case you should notice that the freezer doesn't get cold enought just like you said... so check your freon levels.

This could also be because of the thermostat not sensing when the fridge reaches its set temperature and as a result of this the compressor will keep on running and build-up of ice will occur.

Follow the advices in the order prescribed above and you should be set

Freezer won't stay shut

If you want a part number for the replacement door gasket please provide a complete model number here so I can give that to you or you can look it up yourself at www.searsdirect.com You must have your model number. (sample 110.XXXXX etc)

The magnet is inside the door seal itself. If the seal is damaged replacement is your only option.

Thanks for using FixYa!

The refrigerator not as cold as before

Things to check - door gasket seals for leaks, dirty condensers that need to be cleaned and dust removed, proper clearance to the back and sides of your unit.

Is your evaporator fan in the freezer functioning normally ? is your freezer cooling normally ? You might want to check at the back of your freezer panel for overfrost on the evaporator that will impact cooling performance. You can shut down your unit and try manually defrosting and melting the ice and then run your unit for a couple of hours to see if cooling is back to normal........ if it is, then your defrost system is malfunctioning and you will need to have the control board and/or defrost system components checked.

Otherwise, if overfrost and door seals and dirty condensers are not an issue and you have also tried raising the cooling dial up and compressor run-time is excessive then you may have a sealed system issue but rare and not the common causes. Most common causes are overfrost on the evap / defrost timer problems and damper (flaps that do not open properly).

you will need to have those checked if all else fails.

If you have a manual thermostat,(inside door, knob) your part is

#1175 OPERATING THERMOSTAT (HERMETICALLY SEALED REED SWITCH)

If you need the Hi-limit t-stat --

#1177 HI-LIMIT SWITCH

If you have digital control, with digital temperature control, the unit uses a probe.

#1094 FRYER CONTROLLER TEMPERATURE PROBE

Good luck, Mike
