To get into BIOS, it may be [F2] instead of F12.

Some silly manufacturer even put F8 to get into BIOS, making Boot to Safe mode very hard.

Hit what key to get into bios? are there restore keystrokes to restore?

Usually, for Compaq laptops, they Keystroke is F10. If this doesn't work you need to upgrade your BIOS in order to be able to do that. To do so, download this file: Download the file, create a diskette from it. Then boot from the diskette. Be very careful and make sure that no power loss occurs.
You might turn the notebook into a door-stop otherwise.

2.) Whatever you do, I would suggest to check whether access to BIOS-Setup with F10 on startup still works.
If not, the DIAGS partition where Diagnostics- and Setup-software is store would be missing.

Where is the bios located on the dell 1525

It is a chip soldered onto the motherboard. It's not something that is user serviceable. Updating a bios is seldom necessary for 99% of the people. Unless there is a specific problem you don't have to do anything to the bios. You can access CMOS or the bios by entering setup when you boot up your computer. Usually by hitting F2, F10, F11, F12 or Del. This allows you to change certain features in the way your computer runs. Other than changing your boot devices such as making it boot from CDrom or Hard Drive 1st or 2nd there is generally no reason to play around in the bios.

When i put the disk in nothing happens

It helps to know what operating system you're installing, what kind of computer you're installing it on. You probably are not setup to boot from the CD rom. You need to enter the system bios at the startup. This is usually done by hitting F2, Delete, F12 or other hot key to enter the system bios. You should get a message when your system boots up about which key to hit to enter setup. In the system bios you will find boot options. You need to set it to boot from the CD Rom first and hard drive second.

Dear user,
if you are trying to access bios for setup of CD ROM as a first boot device and having problem to access the bios then here is an advice for you.

most of notebooks or systems have a special key assigned to select the boot device at startup without entering in bios setup. therefore please hit function keys at startup like F9,F11,F12 when you start system. F9 and F12 keys are most commonly used for boot device selection.

hopefully you will understand my advice.

Which key to press at startup to gain access to BIOS E2180 Intel

There are a number of keys used to access the system BIOS at startup. F2 is probably the most common, but I see you've already tried that. I've also seen the ESC and DEL keys used, so try those. If that doesn't work, start working your way across the F1-F12 keys.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

If you don't have one ,again look in the book and see if it is on the hard drive or wher.e If you need additional help, just ask.〈=en&cc=us

Updated bios problem on a780gm-a

I think you had a bad flash!

So re-download a new bios file from there web site and try again, with these instructions....

Updating the BIOS
You can download and install updated BIOS for this motherboard from the
manufacturer’s Web site. New BIOS provides support for new peripherals, improvements
in performance, or fixes for known bugs. Install new BIOS as follows:

1 If your motherboard has a BIOS protection jumper, change the setting to
allow BIOS flashing.

2 If your motherboard has an item called Firmware Write Protect in Advanced
BIOS features, disable it. (Firmware Write Protect prevents
BIOS from being overwritten.)

3 Create a bootable system disk. (Refer to Windows online help for
information on creating a bootable system disk.)

4 Download the Flash Utility and new BIOS file from the manufacturer’s
Web site. Copy these files to the system diskette you created in Step 3.

5 Turn off your computer and insert the system diskette in your computer’s
diskette drive. (You might need to run the Setup Utility and change the
boot priority items on the Advanced BIOS Features Setup page, to
force your computer to boot from the floppy diskette drive first.)

6 At the A:\ prompt, type the Flash Utility program name and the file name
of the new bios and then press <Enter>. Example: AMINF340.EXE

7 When the installation is complete, remove the floppy diskette from the
diskette drive and restart your computer. If your motherboard has a
Flash BIOS jumper, reset the jumper to protect the newly installed BIOS
from being overwritten. The computer will restart automatically.

Hope This helps

Have a nice day!

Diskette drive 0 seek failure

Does the PC have a floppy drive? If it doesn't It appears that your BIOS (Basic PC setup) thinks that there is one! I think that pressing f2 on boot will bring you into the BIOS setup.
In there, see can you locate any reference to 3.5 inch floppy and amend it to the setting which suits the config of your PC.

Please take care as to what other settings you change in the BIOS

If you find this sugestion helps please take time to rate it

Startup with F12

Welcome to FixYa! Delete is the BIOS setup key at POST. F12 is a one-time boot option. Safe mode is accessed by repeatedly pressing the F8 key at the first Windows splash screen. Post again if you have further questions. Steve
