Question about Cameras
Trying to use Vivitar HD975 for first time. Has been on charge for 8 hours, red light is glowing, but when you disconnect charger it has no power. When it is on charge, there is a screen message 'MSDC' but no other response to pressing any of the buttons. How do I get it working?
Most camera's don't work normal as long as an USB cable is in the connector. DSLR's only work with a connector in, when they are connected to a computer and the computer has some special software running. So don't expect your camera to work on external power..
But why not try to charge the battery in an external (Universal) charger? Every time you remove the battery, you can check if it is ok and if anything is oxidised
.If you managed to put in the battery the wrong way around, of forgot to remove a protective folly, the charger was on for 8 hours and the battery is not charged at all.
Check if the battery is in correct. Check if no contacts are oxidised. You can clean contacts with a dry cloth and or cotton swabs. Never use anything sharp in or close to a camera.
Check if the contacts of the battery cam make contact with the contacts in the camera.
I keep my fingers crossed for you.

Testimonial: "Thanks Harrie. Unfortunately, I don't have an external charger. I have checked the battery is in correctly, cleaned the contacts, and anyway I only bought the camera on Saturday. I'm wondering if the battery is faulty. It is a huge nuisance as I only bought if for a project for which I have a deadline of tomorrow."
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Battery will not charge
I found this while searching to find an answer to solve my problem. It worked! Some say that it took them about 20 times... it took me about 7. Be patient and just keep trying! Hope this helps!
My NP 20 gave me the flashing red light of death and I got Casio to replace it. Then I had the same problem with my second NP 20 so I dug around for a way to fix it and I found the following advice on a site called FixYa. It worked instantly and I didn't risk ruining my battery.
I had the same problem as this.
what i did was...
i kept putting the battery on the charger then took it off as soon as the red light came on.
i did this about 6 times.
doing this puts a bit of charge in the battery each time before the charger starts to flash.
after the battery as got enough charge in it it can start to charge.
hope this helps.

msdc stands for mass storage device. Try removing the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

My roommate had the same problem, pretty easy to fix. Make sure your memory card and battery are all the way in and they should lock. If you lost the booklet, the positive/geative signs should be on the bottom right when sliding it in.
