Question about Toys

1 Answer

Just bought a used rig to use as a water truck. Drove 5-6 hours home and it started running a little off, not wanting to accelerate, etc. The next day I drove it the following 2-3 hours home and it even died on me once. I changed the filter and it ran great for a day and then started the same symptoms again, running bad, and even dying again. I have replaced the filter 2-3 times now and it's always a temporary solution. Any idea what's causing this? I brought to a shop but they couldn't tell me anything after having it all day. Said it was the injectors but when I got there it wouldn't show on their computer. Would it be getting temporarily better if it was bad injectors or are these guys just trying to get big money out of me? What does it sounds like is wrong with it?

SOURCE: truck starts, dies. truck runs good some days, bad the next

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: Dies after running about 2 minutes

It's got all the symptoms of a leak in the fuel line. You may want to start backward at the tank and work your way all the way to the carb to find it but it would be surprising if it was something else. All the best.

SOURCE: 1992 Roadmaster Estate 5.7 liter dies for no reason.

Hey I have a 1993 Buick roadmaster also. Had exact same problem. It turned out to be the fuel pump. It was going bad and would work fine then cut off and then back on. Took me 6 months to figure it out. Every time I took it to the mechanic it would work just fine so I put a full tank of gas in it and told him to drive it and it died after a few days. Was a real headach. Hope this helps.

Why is there oil in my radiator?

Possible head gasket but it would still run but overheat lots of smoke from exhaust or you have a leak from transmission or oil lines in radiator. If too much sludge is running in your engine jackets, may be seizing engine. Those are worse case scenarios. But always start with obvious protocol why it is not starting. Spark, charge, fuel, oxygen. You may have a simple fix with old contaminated antifreeze. Antifreeze needs to be replaced every two years.

96 Benz ran out of gas other day, got it filled up & drove home (20 miles). Next day drove about 40 miles, left car running in park for about 15 min, when I left car was stalling like it was running o

You never leave a car running, as it will
overheat the Exhaust Converter
When you run out of fuel, you sometimes
ruin the Fuel Pump
It depends on gas to lubricate it,as strange as it sounds
Check fuel pressure & volume at the motor with a gauge

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Check engine light stays on.

You've made the correct decision. Let the dealership diagnose the issue. They'll tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).
