Question about Epson TM-U220D Matrix Printer

1 Answer

Cannot print from command prompt - Epson U220D Windows 7 32-bit New parallel port with driver New centronix to parallel cable Epson driver APD_455dE (I was using Windows 7 64 bit with a centronix to USB cable but some people have said there were issues with it) Upon installation of the Epson driver, the ESDPRT001 port is created. I am able to go to 'Printers and Drivers', select 'Epson TM-U220 Receipt', right click on 'Printer properties' and 'Print Test Page' This does work and prints a test page. The port it prints to is ESDPRT001. However, I am unable to print using the command prompt. I suspect that it is this lack of ability which is inhibiting me using it successfully with the POS system I have. I have been using the command of: echo test > ESDPRT001 There is no error message. It goes back to the command prompt. But there is no print out either. After looking around, I found the following: NET USE ESDPRT001: \\MYCOMPUTER-PC\EPSON TM-U220 Receipt /PERSISTENT:YES It makes no difference. I only get a message saying "The syntax of this command is: " (it continues more). There is never a success message, so I wonder if have the syntax incorrect. I still cannot print using the command prompt...

The Epson works fairly well with XP. It is to be connected to
a parallel port, usually LPT1
using an IEEE certified parallel printer cable. The computer BIOS
setting is best set for standard parallel port, SPP, bi-directional port
or similar. If possible, do not set it to ECP or EPP or ECP & EPP.

The only native driver for the printer is on the Windows CP CD. Install
using the Add Printer wizard.

The Epson LQ-860 drivers, and a few others, can be used. Using these
drivers, you will discover that the printer actually has some resident
fonts (in printer ROM) that are not accessible from the Stylus
driver. However, with this driver, graphics printing quality is
compromised.

Windows 9x drivers _cannot be used_.

Let us know.

Epson UB-U03II not working

I had huge issues with my TM-U220. It does not play well with a Centronix-to-USB cable or with Windows 64-bit. I played for AGES to try and get it all to work.

I installed the USB device driver[1] I was able to print the Test Page proving that the connection between Windows and the printer sort of worked, but when I tried printing anything from Unicenta POS, it always failed.

I finally bought a new Centronix-to-USB and a new parallel port card, used Windows 32-bit, and problem solved.

They key is to uninstall everything, including searching through the Registry to delete everything.

Epson TM-U220D. Parallel to USB connection. Which drivers should I install?

Hi Ali

The problem by doing this is that not all Parallel to USB cables work right out of the box with your equipment.

What you need to do first is make sure that your computer sees the device through the cable. Then when it prompts you for the drivers for the printer install the driver set (parallel) the connection should not matter at this point. However the step of the computer detecting the device first is very important.

I hope this helped.

How do I restore factory settings to a zebra barcode printer LP-2844-Z

The ^default command has been added to the EPL2 commands, starting in firmware version 4.39. This command will set the printer back to factory settings as long as the printer is in page mode. The command is not supported in line mode at this time. The command is case sensitive.
Syntax: ^default.
You can send the command to the printer via the parallel or serial port.
Parallel:
Open command prompt (DOS prompt) See windows instructions for details.
At the prompt type:
ECHO ^default>LPT1 <enter>
Serial:
Assuming standard communications on the printer of Baud 9600, No parity, 8 bits, 1 stop bit and use of COM 1:
At the prompt type:
Mode Com1:9600,n,8,1 <enter>
ECHO ^default>COM1 <enter>

Printer epson FX-2175 cannot print

1. self-test ( press & hold the paper feed button while turning the printer on)

-conversion cables may or may not work properly-

2a. if cable is parallel, open command prompt and type DIR > LPT1
2b. if cable is null-modem, open command prompt and type DIR > COM1
2c. if on USB, open printer properties window and do a windows test page

if 2c fails, re-install driver

Else, it's your application.

Having problem installing tm-u220d printer on parralel/serial connection

Hello Sanjaypk,

Printer problems can be a real headache.

This definitely sounds like a driver issue because you are able to print a test page so that tells us the computer is successfully communicating with the printer port. What is happening here is the Computer is communicating with the printer through the Operating System (Windows or Apple etc) but the driver IN the software for the POS is not. You didn't mention the computer Operating System you are using or the POS software but the dates of each are ctitical.

The tm-u220d is a high speed printer so make sure you set your LPT1 settings for High Speed Bi Directional printing. (You do this in the Printers Configuration area.)

As far as a driver, check the dates of the driver and look for updates. If you like what I've told you so far then let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

Best Regards and Best Luck!

Epson TM-U220D Printer Status

Hi, On the PC that will not display printer status correctly, pls run MSCONFIG (start, run, type "msconfig", OK); in the System Configuration Utility Window, click on the tab Startup, see if the EPSON Status Monitor is present and checked. If it is not present, check if you have Lavasoft Ad-Watch or similar program running. This prevents the EPSON Status Monitor from registering and running correctly. If such a program is running, temporarily remove Automatic setting and reinstall the EPSON Status Monitor. Accept any registry modification at this point. Restore all settings once installation is finished. If still a no go, try wiggling the parallel connector a bit and make sure it is snug and fit. If all else fails, you may have to consider: Installing to only 1 PC, share and make it a print server assuming you have networked all your PCs; or re-installing Windows (Ouch!) Hope things work out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.
