SOURCE: JVM1750SMSS CHARCOAL FILTER INSTALL

I just installed a JVM 1540 with the same grille. I removed the two top phillips screws before mounting the oven as I cannot access these screw heads once the oven is installed. It took me about 20 minutes of fiddling with the grille to figure out (no thanks to the manual) that the grille needs to slide to the left to release so you can change the light bulb/charcoal filter.

Do I need briquettes for my weber silver grill

No, you don't use briquettes with a charcoal grill. Charcoal is slow to heat up any way, adding lava rock (briquettes) would make it even slower and hard to keep lit. However, its OK to add cooking wood chunks after the charcoal has heated up, to add a smokey flavor.

Happy Grilling!!

I can't get the temperature high enough to go beyon warm, no matter how many briquets I place in the bottom pan.

Most of the time, it's not how much charcoal you use, it's how and where you place the charcoal pan for grilling and searing, as opposed to smoking food. The higher the charcoal pan in the grill, the more air it gets and the charcoal gets hotter. To illustrate this I have included a link to your Owners Manual (in case you have misplaced yours), to you can download and print for future reference. Pay particular attention to page # 9 - Grilling and Searing.

I would add to what your Owners Manual says about what type of charcoal to use, by suggesting that you use all natuarl lump charcoal, instead of briquette type charcoal. It the all natural lump charcoal is easier to light, without starter fluid. Plus, it burns cleaner and hotter than briquette type charcoal.

This should help you solve the issue you're having Happy Grilling!!

I just bought a 18.5 in. weber and after im done cooking and close the vents the coals continue to burn much longer then my 2 previous grills.

Sue, this question/problem has been voiced a couple of times before and I'm not sure it's a problem with the grill. It's more of a problem, of how much charcoal is being used and how long it takes to grill whatever you're grilling, how many portions are being grilled and how long it takes.

My experience has been, after during numerous grilling demonstrations and cooking shows, most folks use way to much charcoal for what they're trying to grill. Charcoal is slow to heat up completely and slow to cool off and extinguish. Especially, if you're using to much charcoal. The slogan I always use when cooking with charcoal is "less is more". When you use less, throw in a couple of chunks of Western Cooking Wood. It will add a great flavor and may convince you to switch to it entirely. Also, all natural lump charcoal lights faster and burns cleaner than charcoal briquettes. It also cools off faster, when the grill is closed completely.

Give it a try, I know you'll see a difference.

Charcoal in a gas grill...Wassup with that?

Well are they lava rocks or charcoal? The Master Flame series is supposed to have lava rocks. If what you see is charcoal, remove it and replace with the lava rocks. You can order the rocks from Char-Broil's website.
