You cannot watch Netflix without Silverlight, that is how it streams the video. The download is free and completely safe, it is a Microsoft product.

SOURCE: Microsoft Silverlight crashes when I try to watch a movie from

You may try and unintstall Silverlight and then re-install it again. I now have had this issue too and that sometimes but not always did the trick for them. I use Google Chrome now myself and never have this issue, thankfully.

I am getting a error message that my broswer is not compatible for netflix. Everything has been fine for months. I am told it is my Netflix player

Most earlier Windows-based computers (up to Windows 8) use Microsoft Silverlight as the default Netflix player. Sometimes, Silverlight becomes corrupted.
I was able to fix this problem on one of my computers by DELETING Silverlight using the Control Panel window, clearing Internet cache from my browser, then returning to Netflix and selecting a title to stream. The first time you do this, it Netflix will automatically push the re-installation of Silverlight. This should f ix your problem.

Netflix says i need to install silverlight but it is already installed

Run 'Windows Update' to get the most-recent security-updates to Silverlight. If that fails, use 'Add/Remove Programs' to remove Silverlight, reboot, and use 'Windows Update' to selectively reinstall Silverlight.

Make sure that you are running the latest version of Silverlight, first uninstall any other version from your Control Panel > Programs and Features and then try to install it again. If you still get problems with the installation then run the Silverlight cleanup from

If after running the Microsft FixIt you still have issues then reply here with the exact error messages you get.

I downloaded netflix, one month free and 7.99 was to come out if I decided to keep it at the end of the month but it was taken the next day and I was told my free month was up

Seems like you're having weird issues. Best thing to do now is probably contacting netflix directly. As for silverlight (I can only assume that's what you meant), switching to a different browser might get that solved for you. My favorite is Chrome, but Firefox, Opera and even the newer versions of Internet Explorer seem to do OK with most of what's on the web.

Netflix Player Error 1001

I tried everything to fix the 1001 error, and finally fixed it by simply uninstalling silverlight, then RUNNING THE INSTALLER AS ADMINISTRATOR. Boom.
