Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer

Failed Wireless Setup/could not create new port

Pixma620. Vista 64 bit system. New computer. New printer. Repeated attempts to install wireless, fail. Repeatedly get message "new port could not be created." Have followed recommendations here without success.
Do I need to install the 64 bit drivers from Canon site? If so, which 64 bit driver (one is labelled "for network", the other just Vista 64 bit). And if so, at what point do I install this driver (before, after software installation?).
Any help would be apprciated

Sorry, but the link would not allow me access.
The printer came with a complete "getting started" installation guide as well as a Network Setup troubleshooting guide. I used these in detail. Unfortunately even in the troubleshooting guide, the only suggestion for "fixing" the "new port could not be created" error, was to uninstall the MP drivers (I did) and then repeat the installation setup (which does reinstall the drivers). Multi attempts brought back to the same error.

THANK YOU! Following your directions (exactly), the wireless setup was completed and is now up and running properly. :)

Check this link for wireless setup:

http://downloads.canon.com/MP620/Intro_to_MP620_Setup_Guide.htm

There are Vista 64 drivers on the CD that came with the printer, but if you want to download, you should download the network drivers if you are installing the printer to work on a wireless local area network (LAN).

Try this. Uninstall the drivers using the Uninstall option from the program list. Look for the IJ Network Utility program listing, and in there use the Uninstall option for the Scan Utility and the Network Tool. Look on the CD for the following file: \CANON_IJ\win\LAN\English\CNMNPU.exe, and double click on it. (This uninstalls the network port that was originally set up for the printer).

Now, with the printer disconnected until prompted, try the setup and installation again.

I'm using Win7 64 with a Canon Pixma MG315 and was having this same problem. I followed your instructions above, and whilst they were for Vista I managed to improvise where required and now have a fully working wifi printer. What I would like to know though is; WHY SO DIFFICULT IN THE FIRST PLACE???? This should really be plug n play, but this has taken me more than 2 hours to install. Because of that, when this Canon unit dies I'll be going back to Brother. Your Canon website is also ZERO help in this matter.

    Correction!!! Model is MG3150

Check the compatibility of the driver with the OS version:Windows 8 (32 or 64 bits), Windows 7 (32 bits or 64 bits) , Vista (32 b, 64 b), XP (32 bits , 64 bits). You should try to use the software that shipped with the printer. When installing, choose local printer (USB), or Network (Ethernet cable, or Wireless).

Describe your 946 All-In-One InkJet Printer Problem I'm running windows 7 on a Gateway laptop and managed to get it to print at one point but then installed some other items to get it to recognize...

This printer is not a wireless rpinter, so I guess you were trying to attach it to a print server of some type.

Try using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings,I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

If your computer came with Windows 7, then follow the procedure below. If you upgraded your computer, the did you install the chipset drivers first. If using a Dell Computer that was upgraded, the desktop/notebook system utility and the chipset drivers need installed first or the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.
Manual Printer Driver Removal

Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista
Compatibility mode You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).

Printer Sharing for 32os and 64os

I am not sure I follow. If you are attempting to share a printer over a home network between computers with different OSes, perhaps you could try this:

If the printer works already with Win7(32bit), go to the Vista computer and try the following:

Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer. Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name
