Question about Garden

Open Question

I have a Deutz Allis 616 H with a 48" deck. It cut grass for about 40 minutes, then launched the deck belt. Have a new dealer part belt, but noticed the engine pulley is not in line with the deck pulley system. It has not been repowered. Is this common?

SOURCE: Swisher 60 deck belt breaks after mowing about 15 minutes.

Even though the routing is correct, have you checked that every spindle and idler pulley turns freely? These bearings can freeze up or bind because debris builds up in them. Also, if the bushings on the idler pulleys can wear, causing them to misalign. Keep checking. Also - is the belt snapping clean, or do you see a burnt, worn spot?

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. The belt is snapping clean. You are correct in your assessment to what the problem might be. We checked all the above and did not correct problem. We put three washers on top of small idler pulley to bring it down and better align routing. Bought heavier belt at auto parts. Believe the bolt head was touching belt where it routed throught to larger idler pulley."

Uneven cut, seems like it misses spots. new blades.

Sounds like the belts are slipping on the deck. Wheneve it gets overloaded it skips? Check under the deck and see if there is anything that the grass can be catching on and keep it from flying out the discharge shoot. And see if there is anything on the belts. Like oil from something leaking, Lots of grass built up under the shieldsl Or if there is lots of grass build up keeping the tensionor pulley from tightning up the belty all of the way.

Leaving streaks of grass in middle of mower

Your forward speed may be too fast for the mower blades to cut every blade of grass. It may be new, but check the deck to see if there are any dents pushing the quill assemblies up making the deck cut uneven. Or it may have the wrong blades on it.
I have seen this problem in the past with a Gravely mower. The person was trying to cut grass to fast. He sold the unit and the new onwer did not noticed any the problems the old owner described.

Belt slipping when in heavy grass. Is there an adjustment for belt tension?

this belt streching thingy is a made up fairy tale, that dealers want you to youll buy more belts really strech..?
ya..a little..but id bet your real culprit is the pulley..there is a tention spring that usually gets knocked out of place..or there is a build up of grass hindering its progess....your there is no adjustment...
drop your deck to its lowest setting and play around with that pulley till you see it getting tighter...then engage your deck blades(with the mower turned off)and move the pulley to free it from its off track position..take out the grass thats collecting in there also(dont roll it up and smoke it)
and you should be fine...good luck...ive been there..actually last week i did the same thing...the first thing i thought was...My belt
