Best method is to simply go to a phone service that "unlocks" phones. It's cheap and reliable. Most use a computer program or have the correct codes for the phone. Plus they make it work in Australia.

- Wait a minute here... When you buy a "SIM" it is for the "country" or "service area of coverage only". They do not work in every country no matter what the "salesman" says. You need to purchase a "SIM" for the area or country that you want to use your phone. If the "service coverage" extends to that area then you have no problem.
The "phone" is a totally separate issue. The phone has a "password lock" and the "SIM" has a password lock. If you bought the phone through a service it is usually "locked" to that service. You need to have the phone "unlocked" and that is not done by a password. Unless the phone is sold to you already "unlocked", you go to a store to unlock it.
Instructions for unlocking the "PHONE" is in your handbook.
Only the service provider of the "SIM" can give you the code for it.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news ... Orange have probably locked the handset to their network and there may not be an unlock available.
You would need to purchase a migration code from Orange (usually more than the handset - LG KG275 locked to Orange currently £10 at Sainsburys)
I was stung by Orange some years back with a truly expensive fully featured handset that nobody could break into ... but did trade it in for £100 vs a nice shiny Nokia that stayed locked until I got it back to my car+laptop !
been to 3 shops and 2 market traders selling mobileas and none can do it. have bought sim for manx pronto and phone simply says - WRONG SIM. Any suggestions apart from throwing it in he bin?
