Just to add my two cents. The J on the model number stands for Japan--Japanese. The OS install was probably in Japanese also . Here is a link for the BIOS flash. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4MBUDT
You'll need another computer to work with if yours is down. And remember, when you work in DOS in XP you will need to use the command line. (cmd typed in run) you make this on a diskette then boot the pc with the diskette. It should make the BIOS readable. Then you can change your boot order. You will need a full version OS to put back on. The drivers for this machine are here:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4S237K#bios

You don't have to update your BIOS just to have it changed into English... It's all there, your problem is how to get into that change language area... Check your system manual I am sure you'll find what you need...
