Question about Rheem 22v50f1 Natural Gas Water Heater 50 Gallon

If its leaking from the top it is possible that it just needs tightening but it is probably that the tank is failing. but to check out the first possibility turn off the water and drain off the pressure if you do not have 2 valves . one on each line you will have to drain the system. then remove the leaking side. in fact remove both sides apply pipe compound or teflon tape and retighten and reconnect all unions .if that solves the problem good if not its time to replace the tank

If water is leaking from a pipe. then replace or repair the pipe or fitting. If the leak is coming from the unit itself, then replace the unit. Hope this helps.
