Question about IBM ThinkVision L170 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

No image on the screen

I have a second-hand IBM ThinkVision which does not show a picture. The manual suggests it might be lack of brightness or contrast, but how can one follow the instructions and adjust this when there is nothing showing on the screen?

When first turned on, an image flashes on the screen then off again. This may be an IBM logo, or in other circumstances a message in a box.

Shall be glad of any help.

Check that the computer is working by first trying another monitor with the computer if possible, or try the ibm on another computer, it may not be getting signal from the computer and so going back to stand by mode.

if the problem happens with a computer that is confirmed working (try it on another computer that gives picture to another display or try another display with this computer) Then the issue could be the inventer board or the backlight.

do you have picture if you put the screen under a light and look closely? could be that the backlight is out.

here is a backlight repair guide:
http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/BacklightFix/Overview.aspx

the backlight kit may come with a new inventer so if the inventer thats in the display is bad replace it with the one that came with the kit, and in that case also replace the backlight with the ones that came with the kit.

I have an image with the flashlight, but no backlighting on my IBM 6734 lcd monitor

The inverter module is bad or the back light behind the LCD screen has stopped working, I would suggest an estimate if you decide to have it repaired.

IBM ThinkVision L191p after power on, remain black.

First place to chaeck will be power supply, the problem can also be caused by bad inverter circuits, bad lamps, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps, lamps, http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Pictures won't show on screen

I have checked to see if I can simulate your problem on my D70.
There are no settings on the Set-up menu to turn off the display.
The display should show for a minimum of 6 seconds after a phot is taken.
You can reduce the screen brightness but that will not turn it completely black.
I presume you have eliminated all other possibilities by changing batteries, card, lens etc..
If so, it would suggest an LCD screen failure which would necessitate a repair by a Nikon agent.

Image appears for 2-3 seconds then screen goes black

The following steps are how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,
Tan
