I have an epson NX400 inkjet printer, all ink cartridges are full and are installed correctly. When trying to print, the black ink is not being printed. I have tried doing several head cleanings,...

hey friend,

This should be the problem of print head ink nozzle block. The nozzle for the black ink cartridge got dry.So the ink getsdried state. It won't allow any inks passing through the micro nozzles.Head cleaning won't help with the heavy nozzle block. So try replacing a new black cartridge or else bring the printer to the nearest service center. It'll help so.

First print a test page to make sure the printer's firmware is working correctly. See here. Check here to see that you have the most current driver installed for your OS.
Then use this article to set the print properties to print in grayscale using the black ink cartridge only, and test the printing.
If you get no output from the black cartridge, see this article or this article for help with cleaning and checking the cartridge contacts. Make sure the tape is removed from the cartridge nozzle. You may try running the auto clean utility a couple of times, but be aware that this consumes ink, and if you are not getting black printout, it's likely that the print nozzles are clogged with old ink. Sometimes even a new cartridge can be out of date, or have been stored incorrectly, and cause this.
I've read of cases where people were able to use a vacuum nozzle to clear clogged cartridge nozzles and get them operating again, but haven't tried this myself, and recommend if you do you attempt it in an environment where ink can be cleaned up. (See here for more on that.)

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Possible printhead issue.
Please reseat the black cartridge. Let the printer charge like it normally does.
Print a nozzle check pattern. If you see gaps, missing lines or missing colors on the pattern, clean the printhead using the driver. 3 consecutive cleaning cycle is recommended. Compare the nozzle pattern over the last printout. If you see any improvement, you can clean the head numerous times until you get a perfect nozzle check pattern.

Are you confident the new cartridge is full and in-date? Can you confirm that the old cartridge was not removed until immediately before the new cartridge was installed? Did you remove the yellow tape from the new cartridge before you installed it? Was the black cartridge change properly completed such that an ink charging cycle occurred? Have you carried out any head cleaning cycles? If not, do it. Have you done a nozzle check print? If not, do it. Any sign of black ink? Yes, but not perfect? If not, do a couple more head cleans and nozzle checks. If still not perfect, let it rest for 24 hours to disperse air bubbles. Then repeat.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're sure you have a good ink cartridge properly installed, then there are other things we can try - assuming other solutions haven't worked either. Report back on my queries etc.

Canon IP90 portable . No ink printing.

Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.

Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.

After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.

If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're SURE you have a good ink cartridge properly installed, then you can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then try up to 3 head clean/nozzle checks again. If still nothing, post a new comment with full details of what you have done and the results.
