Question about Roper RAS6233KQ Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Only cycle that works is the spin cycle

History: Lid switch broke, so I bypassed it. This worked great til it came loose and when I fixed it that time I blew the breaker and something else When I re-shorted the lid switch, the machine ran continuously. Would finish the regular cycle and go on to permanent press. So I replaced the timer. Now the only cycle that runs is the spin cycle. Could this be because my lid switch is permanently "closed"? Or did I get a defective timer?

SOURCE: How do I replace the lid switch on my waher it's a Roper

buy a replacement switch and the top lifts off from the front.  It could be the switch has only come loose or the probe on the lid has broken off.

SOURCE: I think the issue might be the lid switch, but not

If you put hanger in hole and push down then it works it is the lid switch. To remove take top off to get to it. From the front take a putty knife and push on each side about an inch from the side to release the clips that hold the top down. Putty knife between the top & the cabinet. Lift up and you can get to the switch. Also it could be the plastic piece that pushes the switch down is broken off and not long enought to push the switch down.

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

NOTE: Your washer is manufactured by Whirpool and has Whirlpool parts. So, these instructions will apply.

SOURCE: How do I replace the lid switch

the way you get the top off is reach on the back side of the right and left side and you will feel or see a screw that is in a slot. unscrew the screws and then pull the control panel forward and up. you will see the 3 wire connection in the middle and that is the door switch wires. you will also see two gold clips when you take those off you will be able to take the cabnit and under the cabnit you just have two unscrew a 5/16 screw which holds the ground wire on. and that should be it.

the lid switch may be loose or broken it happens to me it was washing but never rinse i found out that it was a loose switch this switch prevents the rinse cycle from working with the lid open because of the high speed rinse ,some machines dont work at all, a loose switch makes the machine think the lid is open even if it is closed.good luck.

Tumble action washer will not spin to remove water from cloths, however it does tumble the cloths during wash cycle, just does not have the high spinning required to remove excess water

This could be a simple fix or the expensive one. Let's try the simple fix first. All dryers have a safety feature for when the washer spins ( mostly for kids to not stick hand in or open lid up when washer is spinning at high speed, to prevent injury) On the lid it self (underneath) has a peg or button that when closes goes into a slot or hole on top of the washer, otherwise known as a switch. Sometimes that switch goes out which has to work for the washer to spin, or has to be bypassed. If you don't know much about bypassing or wiring I would buy a new washer lid switch. There probably under 20 bucks, and easy to replace. Now the expens

I own a Maytag Washer Model #PAV5157AWW that is displaying the following problem: On the final spin cycle the water is not emptied (using an earlier spin cycle solves the issue right now).

Believe it or not my washer had the same problem and my neighbor came over and bypassed my lid closure button and it works great. Seems the button that the lid hits is controlling the cycles. So he bypassed it. I don't know how exacting but he had to take the top off and redo some wiring, so I would call someone if I were you.

No spin cycle

Sounds like its the lid switch. Look on the cabinet where you shut the lid. Chances are the switch is broke.

Good Luck.

Washer does not spin. What's wrong with the machine??

Sounds like a bad lid switch. If it works intermittently, could be loose. When you close the lid, the two parts of the lid switch line up which allows continuation of operation. You can bypass the lid switch by removing power to machine; locate the switch FOR THE LID ON THE MACHINE SIDE, remove the two wires and wire nut them together. MACHINE WILL RUN NORMALLY EVEN WITH THE LID OPEN.

Whirlpool-spin cycle will not work

hi,

could be either the safety switch at the lid broke off or the plastic motor mount ujoint broke, they are both replaceable. have to study it. first open the lid and try and depress the safety switch, it should click. if it doesent thats it. if its the plastic motor part, the motor has to come off and a new plastic u joint goes in there, pretty easy fix, be careful and take time.

Won't spin

check your lid switch ...on the lid you see a little plunger this should go into a slot areound the rim of the washer and close a switch. you can try a small screwdriver to press it in while in the spin cycle..see if it works then if not the sw will have to be replaced as this needs to be closed (lid) before the unit will pump out and spin

Does not spin sometimes

Tbone, make sure the lid switch is not broke or loose and the actuator is making the lid switch. Usually when you have a no spin, no drain on these direct drive models it involves the lid switch..Catriver...post back.
