I am using a dlink wbr-1310 and am able to detect the wireless connection via my HP running vista. Recently had a friend come over and her Vaio running windows xp was NOT able to detect the wireless network. I reset the router twice and even logged in to make sure I wasn't preventing new connections. To no avail. Basically, her wireless connections does not include my network in the list. She's able to connect wirelessly at universities, coffee shops, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Your friend need to clear her wireless connection so she can connect to yours. Look at the lower right corner on her screen and see the flashing TV screens for the wireless connection. Right click on the icon and click repair. She might have to reboot and then she should see your wireless network and connect as you do,

Yesterday when I turned on the desktop (Windows XP) it looked funny almost like it was brand new partly from the box. When I put router disc in it opens but doesn't display as open on task bar. Help
