Question about Kenwood KDC-C465 6-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

Kenwood 6 disc cd changer

The magazine is stuck inside the unit of my CD changer. The unit is installed in the trunk. It was playing fine one day until it got to the end of one disc. I then got the E-99 error message. I was able to hit the reset button and everything played fine. Now it just struggles to try to eject the magazine. I do notice that one of the screws mounting the unit is bent but not loose and there was some mild skipping which I had never heard before.

SOURCE: Error Message

another problem i have found is that if the changer gets to hot sometime it wont play and by removing the disks it lets it cool just enough to make it work. sometimes by making sure to have enough ventilation in it might help too.

SOURCE: No power to the disc changer, how do I manually eject the magazine

There is a manual eject slot on the side of the CD changer. You will need a small flat head screwdriver or a pry tool to insert into the slot.

A CD may have gotten stuck moving from its slot to the play mechanism or while returning to its slot. If repeatedly pushing the reset button does not restore operation or make it possible to pop out the magazine, you may be in for a difficult task of removing the magazine manually but the stuck disc has to get unstuck first

Error 01 the magazine does not eject

A lot of times there is a gear inside of the changer that gets jammed. If you can, remove the top cover of the changer. On the changer mechanism (it will be on the right side of the changer) there will be a large gear (probably black) with an arm attached to it. Use a flat blade screw driver or something like that and turn the gear counterclockwise until the tray is back in magazine. You should then be able to put the changer back together and it will probably work fine.

How do I remove a stuck 6CD changer magazine?

Our Bose has a 5 CD player, So, I'm not sure if this is the same for your base unit, but here goes. You'll need: a bright light and a small screwdriver that reaches inside the chassis (or equivalent).

1. Disconnect the base unit from the system.
2. Turn the base unit upside down and find the access hole embossed with "Manual magazine release" on the CD player side.
3. Using a bright light, look inside the base unit at those access holes and find the fine spring and locate where it fastens to the sheet metal of the CD player.
4. When you find the spring you should see that it connects to the CD player chassis at the forward end and a piece of sheet metal that is on top (actually underneath when the base unit is right-wide up) of the CD player chassis at the rear end. This is the manual release mechanism.
5. Using the small screwdriver, push the release mechanism rearward to release the CD magazine from the player. The magazine should pop out.

If the magazine is not released, then the CD that is still in teh player has not been slid back fully into the magazine. In this case you'll need to plug the base unit back into power and hope that the CD is retracted, allowing you to push the release mechanism rearward. If not then you'll have to open the base unit to access the CD player.

Hi
Open top cover, if the empty magazine was left inside the cd trays it can slide out into the playing area and jam the unit, check it like that anyhow. Sometimes you can see a small metal tab to release the magazine.

However Error1 means Battery inside CD Changer needs to be replaced.
And NO CD.CD error message means No CD in magazine or no magazine in CD Changer.

To fix the problem, disconnect the CD changer.
take off the top plastic slide cover,
with a small screwdriver slowly move the gearing so that the CD disc holder will move back to the load - unload position.
Pop out the CD holder.
Replace unit, reconnect the optic and power lead, switch on radio and the unit will work again.
grease the moving parts with light lubricant.

Magazine-type CD changers are prone to jamming with a disc in transit between the magazine and the player. You may have to resort to disassembling the trunk unit to get access to the jam.

You may have to remove the unit and disassemble it to remove the CD that evidently is jammed inside. If your unit has a removable magazine that holds the CDs, the magazine probably is stuck.
