If your PS3 console attempts to turn on, then beeps and a yellow light comes on and then your Sony PlayStation 3 shuts down or does not power on at all or shows no video means YLOD or Yellow Light Of death has occurred! A guy had same problem with His console 6 months back, He was able to fix it for 15 bucks ! without sending it to Sony for costly repair.
Hi there, this is usually a sign of the Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD). When the PS3 was originally made Sony used lead free solder in their consoles. Lead free solder is not as flexible as normal leaded solder and over time due to expansion and contraction because of heat given off by the console's components lots of PS3's failed. You have got a couple of options, you can either have the console professionally repaired which is going to cost around £50. As the console is out of warranty Sony will only replace it for a cost of around £130. As a last resort if you are good with electrical items you might want to have a go at repairing it yourself. If you googleYLOD you will find plenty of guides that will instruct you on how you can repair it yourself. Even if you manage to get the console working for just a couple of minutes, at least you could get your game out. Alternatively try holding the eject button while turning it on from the rear. This may force an eject and the fan will spin very fast.
Please bear in mind that once a console has the YLOD there is NO guarantee as to how long a repair will last, it could be a couple of hours to a couple of years.
I hope this information helps you and I hope you get your PS3 up and running soon.
That yellow light is what us gamers refer to as YLOD.. Its the Yellow Light Of Death. Your system will have to be serviced by Sony. If your system is under warranty still it wont cost you anything but if its not, Sony charges 150.00 dollars to fix/replace it. They will send you a box in the mail to send it to them. Turnovers usually 2-3 weeks. My condolences to you and your PS3. Best of luck to you.
Mate if you turn your PS3 off when the hard drive is still operating or the power shuts of while playing a game and the PS3 is collecting or writing data to your hard drive, it will most definitely corrupt or even destroy your hard drive it is very common in PC's to. Hint: 1. Do not shut down your PS3 while it is saving a game or collecting info from the hard drive. Rather quit the game then press your off key with one quick touch and let go of it, it will shut down when it is ready or hold down on the remote's PS button and select switch off system on screen. 2. If you live in a area where the power shuts off for no reason please please get your self a computer UPS(UN-INTERRUPTED POWER SUPPLY). 3. If you replace the hard drive make sure you buy a good quality hard drive like a Western Digital or Seagate.
not a solution but a possible answer it is possibly the ylod (yellow light of death) it seems a few people are getting this and my ps3 has broke aswell even sony dont know what is wrong with it. but your problem sounds like the ylod
The only thing i can think of is click the switch to turn off the PS3 completely leave it off for about 30 second turn the switch back on and try again. If the doesn't work you may have a problem with your power supply and might need to get your PS3 serviced
How long were you playing it? if you were playing for a couple of hours, then it could of just overheated, in which case the ps3 will shut itself off suddenly to keep from damaging something. It should work after about half an hour, adequate time for it to cool down, if not, then you might of damaged something.
