There are several ways to speed up your PC by updating various components. Maxing out your memory capacity is one way, getting rid of files you no longer need is another because as your hard drive begins to fill up the system has to sort through all of these files to find what you want to access. You can defragment your hard drive and it will make accessing those files a little faster but maybe not enough for you to notice. You can defrag by clicking on the start menu click on programs and find the accessories folder click here and then again on the system tools folder, here you will find the defragmentation program and upon clicking it, it will let you analysis your hard drive and then defrag it. If you have not maxed out your memory to the 4-gigabyte max, I recommend doing so. In addition, you might consider upgrading your graphics card as well as going with a larger hard drive. All of these suggestions depend on why you need more speed, is it for playing games, movies, pictures? Another thing is that there are programs that constantly are working in the background that can also slow your system down. In the lower right hand corner there are usually icons there, these are programs that are running in the background whether you use them or not. Some programs such as Yahoo Messenger and some others are set to start up with Windows by default when you install them so you may want to disable them from doing so and start them only when you use them.
