Question about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

INTERNET NOT WORKING

Hi

I downloaded IE8, after downloading the toolbar (file, edit etc) was not there. I then restored my computed to before the IE8 download thinking it would go back to normal, however now when i click on my desktop IE logo it goes to open but immediatly closes again!

I checked and although I downloaded IE8, im actually still using IE7, the files for IE8 are installed on my C drive still. - I tried removing IE7 from add or remove programs area, however the remove option was not there, so i uninstalled Service pack 3, then it allowed me to remove IE7. After I removed IE7, I had no internet connection at all, (I thought it may have reverted to IE6 as default). I have now restored my computer to undo my IE7 Removal.

Although I cannot use Internet Explorer I can access via MSN explorer. I tried to download IE8 again through MSn Explorer, but when the download box appears its blank, therefore I cant download anything.

Also my Internet Explorer Icon On the task bar now says "Internet Explorer (No Add Ons)" and also that in my control panel the "Internet Options" section has dissappeared!

Is there anything I can do?? - Can I download IE onto a disk on another computer and upload??

HELP!! - its my brothers computer, hes away on holiday and back on friday - I need to fix it before then!

Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your reply

Im using Windows XP and I checked and the current version of IE is IE7! - I had updated to service pack 3, and it didnt resolve the problem, but I was advised to remove this - therefore i did.

Also I CANNOT open the internet at all through IE, therefore I cant open it.

  • girlinpink83 Jun 23, 2009

unfortunatly internet options have disappeared from the control panel, since i have been experiencing this problem.

is there any other way to access them?

  • girlinpink83 Jun 23, 2009

ok i will try downloading again, but i cant try the following, as when i click on internet explorer it flashes on screen and immediatly closes, which means I cant try to repair as you said:

If you have Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8 installed, you can repair damaged files or missing registration information in Internet Explorer 7 or in Internet Explorer 8. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
    4. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.

  • girlinpink83 Jun 23, 2009

yes i am in the Uk

the internet icon says "no add ons" and it does not work

can i chand it to add ins??

I will check the .exe files and get back to you

Yeah im online through MSN Explorer - but I dont understand how IE wont work, and why MSN Explorer wont let me download anything! lol its rather frustrating!

  • girlinpink83 Jun 23, 2009

yeah i had that great idea too - but after i installed service pack 3 it seemed to wipe all my previous restore points therefore im now stuck on the current system unable to go further back

my system restore is set to max - but can you increase it? for the furture be good to know! haha

  • girlinpink83 Jun 23, 2009

    thanks for all your help

im off to work now but when i get home im gonna spend tonight trying to fix this - i was already up till 1:30am last night - I just wanna get it sorted!

Hi,

First of all, you haven't mentioned the Operating System, whether its XP or VISTA.

Now,

IE is a part of Windows Operating System. It cannot be uninstalled. If gone wrong, either needs to get it fixed or installed the windows again. There is no shortcut. You cannot download IE on a disk. It's a part of WINDOWS.

Do you see any "e" icon on the desktop.Open that. Go to help, Click about Internet Explorer. Check the version. If that's IE8, something has gone wrong.

Go to Microsoft website, again download IE. Once downloaded, this would fix the issue.

As you have played with the settings, the IE explorer registry files and some other computer registry files has been corrupted.

Please update the all the service packs.Once done, it will fix all the issues unless you need to REINSTALL THE WINDOWS.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

    Hi,

You need to repair it. Is there any way you could access microsoft website.

If yes, there is an option for repair.Unless, repair the windows using the Original CD and it would fix the issue. Or download some other browser on a CD, install it and the run the nicrosoft site from there.

I hope you getting my point.

    Thanks for using 'Fixya".

    Hi,

There is a trick to Download IE on a CD which is usually prohibited by microsoft. Still, if you are facing such an issue, follow the below guidelines to install IE into a cd and then Installing in your computer.

    http://www.updatexp.com/download-ie6.htm...

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Lolz..

    You can suggest "Microsoft".

Usually this restore option is really good in VISTA as compared to XP.

Well, that's the reason Back Up software companies are really selling their software's like anything.

    Thanks.

Before doing anything drastic. Open Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced and select the Reset towards the bottom of the dialogue.

If you download IE7 onto a memory stick you should be able to run it from there.

  • philipk Jun 23, 2009

Are you based in the UK?

Does the IE with no add ins work?

If you go into C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer are there any .exe files?

You're obviously on the internet somehow. Download IE7 using the link I gave before onto a memory stick and try to run that.

  • philipk Jun 23, 2009

Another solution (which may or may not work) is to use System Restore Wizard and pick a date before you installed IE8. Start>Help and Support>Performance and Maintenance>Using System Restore to undo changes> Run the System Restore Wizard

  • philipk Jun 23, 2009

    Try downloading IE7 at work.

If you're still stuck e-mail me at philip.knowles@lineone.net and I'll give you my phone number so that I can try to talk you through it.

First, open your Internet Options. Delete all temp files and history files.

CC Cleaner is a great free tool to do this and more. Download and install. Run it and clean everything it finds.

Tip

Got an annoying toolbar in IE that you just can't remove ?

Then this is for you it's a standalone program that can be integrated into IE8 soyou can use it throught the tools, it's called Toolbar Cop v3.4, dont be put off it's not a cheap piece of freeware it will allow you to remove programs like Bugnosis very hard to budge without this. Thanks Rahmesh this is his site needs a bit of updating though the download link does not work on the authors site however you can get it here

http://rapidshare.com/files/252135138/ToolbarCop.zip

ToolbarCop is a browser extensions manager which can disable or eliminate the following browser add-ons selectively from Internet Explorer v6-v8 even when there is not uninstall or remove function in the IE8 Manage Add-ons oprions;

•Browser Helper Objects (BHO)
•Toolbars
•Standard Toolbar buttons
•Context menu Extensions
•Download managers
•Protocol Handlers
•Horizontal / Vertical Explorer Bars (side-search bars)
•Startup applications originating from RUN registry keys.

I reccomend that you create a folder called toolbarcop in program files then copy the file into it then open the program and then add the functionality to IE8 so you can best use it.

How do i restore my web address box & the back button & also the 'File' 'Edit' buttons on my Mozilla Firefox??

The Firefox "menu bar" includes dropdown menus for various tasks (including "File", "Edit", etc.). If the menu bar does not display, press the "Alt" key (if you are using Windows). That will restore the menu bar temporarily. To restore it permanently, go to the menu bar and select:

The Firefox "navigation toolbar" includes the "back", "forward", "reload" buttons, and the address bar (where you type a web address). If the navigation bar does not display, go to the menu bar and select:

Version 5.1 (build 2600xpsp_sp3_gdr.0808814-1236:service pack 3)

Hi Bharat,
You must restore your system to earlier state by using System Restore.
To open System Restore: Click on Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

There you will find a calendar with some dates in bold type> Look for the date when you installed IE8. Then click on it, a window will open with dialogs for restoring your computer to that date. Then just follow the easy steps and it will be done.

Missing and unrecoverable INTERNET OPTIONS in XP Windows 2000

If you still have the IE8 Beta 2 setup progrram on your system, run it and select the 'Repair installation' option if presented. If that's not there, you could try to reinstall over the existing installation, or you could go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features. Select Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 and uninstall it. Reboot the computer and check to see if your previous version of IE is working properly.

If that works and you still want IE8, download the latest version from the MS site and install, since Beta 2 is old. I am currently using RC1 but the RTM version may be available by now.

Let me know if this doesn't work and we can look at other options.
