Won't spin DVD - says OPEN (top right) on TV screen

I put the DVD in and powered on the unit. It was on stand by. The dvd did not spin as it normally would. The screen said OPEN so I thought it might be thinking the lid is not closed but it snuggly closed. I tried powering off multiple time and unplugging the power but it won't spin the DVD at all.
Last time I used it everything worked perfect.
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I opened it up and the leads that connect the door close contacts werent connected to the circuit board. I just plugged them back in and all was well.

Just got a coby dvd-207 for free due to this problem, fix takes about 5 minutes.

Tools needed:
1 small philips screwdriver
1 toothpick
1 bottle of rid-ox, deoxit, or similar contact cleaner and restorer

1) remove the two rubber feet on bottom of case that have arrows pointing at them
2) remove 6 screws that have arrows pointing at them
3) carefully open case, there are wires connecting both halves, leave them connected
4) press open button, so that the disc receptacle is open
5) look for a gear on the inside near the back of the case that is connected to the dvd door, there should be a cheap reed switch mounted near it
6) clean the cheap reed switch with a toothpick dipped in rid-ox/deoxit/etc
7) re-assemble, plug it in, and watch movies for another few months until the reed switch decides to stop working again

The next time it goes out, i am just going to cut the two wires to the switch and either cross them over or install a mini-toggle switch on the side of the case..

Does it have a lock button like an Ipod? A small awitch somewhere that disables all controls? You might also check the poinjt where the AC/DC adapter plugs in, there may be a switch that chooses the battery or input power.

Dvd wont play the screen says loading but the disk doesnt even spin

The problem with combo units is in this case the dvd portion is only if available sold as a complete unit---much cheaper to buy a stand alone Dvd unit and hook it up.

Let me know if you have questions.

I have a pioneer DVR630H DVD Recorder. When i load a DVD the screen says loading but it does not load & play.

Open the top cover of your DVD player after unscrewing its screws at side and back, plug it into AC socket, switch it ON, and put a Cd in it, and see whether it spins or not. If it spins and still the device not reads the CD, either its laser pickup unit is fauty, or dirty. Put a cleaning disc in it and play for 2 or 3 times and check whether it helps you. If not, replace the strip wire that goes from the laser pickup unit to the main baord first. In some cases, if this wire gets faulty, this kind of problem will occur. If it also doesn't help, there is no other way than replacing the Laser Pickup Unit, with same type and number. OK.

Disney D7500PDD Portable DVD Player doesnt spin DVD

Very Good Daniel,
if you are good with a srewdriver.. you could use a DVD from a computer and swap it to disney
Does the door to DVD slides out or pop the lid.
You still can swap if you are careful and you know what you are doing
I've done a few times.
Let me know in the future, if you can't, you can send to me for repair

Disc does not spin and shows on screen that there is no disc

With the power turned off, open the DVD Player, and then open the top where you load the DVD into the player. Locate the laser lens and notice that the laser is attached to a transport assembly that moves the laser diagonally outward in a slot. 1. Slide this assembly outward to the end of its track. 2. Slide the assembly back inward to the closest inward position. 3. Repeat the process of sliding the assembly outward and then back inward.4. Put in a music CD and let it play all the way through. This helps to calibrate the laser head assembly movement. When the music CD is finished playing. 5. Put in a DVD, and you should have a working unit again This is a factory solution from Mintek that was given to a customer who ask for help with the forever loading disc problems. This solution may work on other models of portable DVD players. Most portable DVD players use this type of transport mechanism. Try this solution it might work for you. I hope this information helps you with your problem.

Hard drive failure

Thank you for your question. The good part is that Yes, I do have an answer but unfortunately it is not an answer that will fix this issue. The most probable cause of the "HELLO" issue with these devices is the DVD-RW drive. It just simply gives out and the unit (during it's power self test) does not detect a drive on that end of the IDE cable. One way you can verify this is by powering on the unit...listen carefully (puting your ear close to the top of the unit, right over the DVD-RW drive) and first you will hear the Hard Drive spin. On a working unit, you can also hear the the DVD-RW initialize right after the hard drive has reached it's peak revolution (it sounds like a robot waking up from a nightmare). If you only hear the hard drive spinning and nothing else, then you know the culprit. To re-verify, you can connect another hard drive (making sure the master/slave configuration is correct) and the unit should get past the HELLO salutation if indeed the DVD-RW is bad. A solution for this is replacing the DVD-RW drive with another PC drive but aligning it accordingly will be the challenge. Besides that, I hope the "waking up like a robot" comment wasn't too off topic and hope this info helps.

Disk wont spin?

If its still under warranty, and the seal hasn't been cracked, contact Microsoft.

Try what hijackthis1 suggested, if that doesn't fix it, try this.

Since you have the 360 apart, and the top cover off of the dvd drive, here we go...

There's a circular cut-out that's glued to the top cover that you removed from the dvd drive, right below the sticker with all of the drive information. I was able to pop out the cut-out. After that you now have (3) pieces in your hand, the cover, cut-out, and a plastic piece.

Connected the dvd drive back in the 360 with the top cover off.

Put a game or movie in the drive, don't hit the eject botton, just put the disc in the tray.

Now with the disc in the tray, put the plastic piece in the center of the disc. Its magnetic, so it should kind of lock in to place.

Connect the power/av cords in the 360 and turn her on.

You should see the disc try to spin. (It may spin once or a couple times around, but it will stop). When you see the disc start to spin, GENTLE, spin/turn the disc in the direction in wants to go. It should load the game or dvd with no problems.

Reassemble the cover and put back on the dvd drive.

Now use the eject botton, and try games and dvds.

If disc fails to spin, do process over again.

I've done this with one of my 360's with no problems.
The drive I used was an Hitachi 0059DJ.

DVD went in...and won't come out

Whatever you do, DON'T try ejecting it manually. it can ruin the dvd mechanism. The problem is in the dvd power supply. If you have some soldering skills and are good with a soldering iron(temperature controlled is best) you can resolder all the three-legged regulators on the dvd power supply board(small board to the right front of chassis). Good success, Meder's Tv

Dvd won,t eject

This is going to require opening the unit and taking the DVD unit covers off. If you feel confident and are good with tools and have a good memory (to remember how it all goes back together), you should be able to get the DVDs out. Just remember to be careful inside the unit, go slow and don't force anything. After the DVDs are out and you have the unit back together properly it should be OK if no damage was done to the laser assembly. Good luck.
