Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

What you need is a service manual. You can either purchace a "general" sevice manual like Haynes or Chilton at your local parts retailer, or you can have access to all the service information I would use if you brought your truck to me for repair. For a small anual fee, alldatadiy.com will provide all the service information, diagrams, Technical Service Bulletins, and Safety Recall information you will ever need. Also it is "vehicle-specific" information, not "general" like some manuals.

You will also need an harmonic balancer puller tool to get the crankshaft pully off. Many parts retailers have "loaner" tools you can use to get the job done. They usually make you pay the full purchase price of the tool, but will give you a full refund when you return it.

Another of the features of AllData is that they also provide lists of any special tools required to do certain jobs.

How to turn the sevice warning light off after oil change ?

BMW Model E39 built from 1996~2000 will have a port like the one shown below. A Reset tool like a Peake R5 or R5-FCX is needed to reset the oil service or inspection service lights after required service.

1) If you have a reset tool then turn your car key to Position II but do not start the car.
2) Turn the cap counter clock wise on the Data Link Connector and insert the Reset Tool
3) Follow the instructions of your reset tool, different models may have different functions however they all create a short in PIN 7 to PIN 19 for a given amount of time.

  • OIL Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 3+ seconds
  • INSPECTION Service Reset requires pin 7 and 19 to be closed for 10+ seconds

  • 4) Once done, remove the reset tool and close the cap .
    5) Your dash should light up with green lights at this point.
If the light did NOT reset after the above steps then you might be resetting Oil Service however an Inspection Service is needed.

sounds like the tool needs to be cleaned and serviced or the driver is bent, if you don;t have the owners manual to clean this tool, go to Paslode.com and type in your model number for a detailed instruction on the cleaning of the tool.
