Question about Kenmore Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Needle tip breaks after sewing a few seconds. Tried re-threading. I don't have the manual for the machine (kenmore model # 158.16011). Is this a tension issue or a bobbin issue??? Or something else?

It was a tension issue and the bobbin case was coming apart. I re-assembled the case and adjusted the tension and TA-DA - it works!

Kenmore mini ultra The top thread breaks off from needle after a few stitches. The bobbin seems to Be catching the top thread. Thank you. ??

If the top thread sews a few inches and then breaks, something is catching the top thread and holding it until it breaks. Usually, this will happen when using the old style thread cones with the slit in the edge to keep the thread from raveling off the spool. To prevent the thread from hanging up, turn the thread spool over so the slit is at the top instead of the bottom. Sometimes top thread breaks will happen if the thread becomes looped around the thread spool pin.

Remove the thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and then rethread the upper thread. Verify that the thread path is correct and that the thread has not looped around a guide.

If the thread is fraying at the needle eye, the needle/thread are not compatible. Also, the tension may be too high.

Check that the upper tension disk is clean--no gunk buildup or thread pieces stuck.

If the thread is actually breaking when it penetrates the needle plate hole, there may be a burr or nick somewhere below that is catching the upper thread. You can wrap your finger with a piece of fine fabric, like an old pair of hosier, fine knit fabric, etc. and running your finger around in the bobbin area, under the needle plate. If you get snags, then you have a burr or nick. If it is small, you can sometimes smooth it with a fine emery board. If it is a large burr, you may need to purchase a replacement part.

Can not get machine to work, no manual, knots up and breaks thread right away 20 15516 machine can you help?

First check in the bobbin area for lint, bits of thread wrapped round parts.

Then make sure your needle is oriented and inserted fully.

Also when starting a seam be sure to grasp both of the threads and hold them as you start to sew.

If you still have problems, make sure your thread and needle are suitable for your fabric.

Since you don't really say where it knots and breaks ... it could also be a damaged needle plate.

Needle tip breaks when machine makes a few resolutions

You may be using the wrong needle for the thread that is currently in the machine. Check the manual that came with your machine to see what needle size is suggested for your project's thread and fabric.

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
