Put new ignition
Possibly a bad starter switch which has a built in kill switch. There is a wire that goes up to the coil that is used to kill the spark when you shut it down and also goes in the safety circuit to prevent it from starting unless everything is in the right position. sometimes you can unhook the wire and still run safely. if it doesn't shut down when the switch is in the off position a toggle switch can be wired in to ground the circuit if you need it.

I've discovered that if you leave key on battery will be drained to dead. Checking battery with meter shows +12v. When key is turned to start position nothing happens. When you connect meter to battery terminals and put key to start position the meter reads about .250 VDC. Even after taking battery to Advance Auto and have it checked it still does same thing. Eventually I jumped my mower with another battery that was being used in my scooter. Bingo! all worked well with jump. You would probably be able to jump with car battery with no problem.

Make sure that when you check the oil that the mower has sat I say for at least 5mins. Your mower might have an oil sencer. If not I think it might be the coil gettin hot and shorting out.

Could be a few things, First, you say it's getting fuel, but is the fuel fresh? It may have water in it and act like your engine. Did this problem just start happening? Did you happen to ride over something that may have sheared the key on the flywheel? This would throw the timing off on the engine. If you can try to start it while spraying gas into the carb throat and it keeps running, then it could just be a dirty caburetor or a misadjusted carb float. Good luck, Bill

Check to see if you left the blades engaged. There is a safety switch that prevents starting with blades engaged. Easy to miss, happened to a friend of mine last month.
