Transferring calls-- transfers too quickly

Usually the phone only rings twice before the call is transferred to my landline. It transfers so fast I don't get the chance to answer the phone. But sometimes it rings about 5 times, so I can answer a call before it gets transferred. How can I set the number of rings before a call gets transferred?

When a call comes in and I transfer to my boss' extension, incoming calls do not come through, caller states phone keeps on ringing. Also on that same extension calls do not transfer to voice mail.

  • Begin the transfer. With the caller on the line, press the "Transfer" key. The caller will automatically be placed on hold and you will hear a dial tone.
  • Connect the caller to the other party. Dial the extension of the party you wish to reach. When you hear the extension ring or after you've announced the caller, complete the transfer by pressing "Transfer" a second time. If the person does not wish to receive the call, press "Release" to disconnect from the dialed extension. Press the key beside the flashing arrow on the LCD indicator where the various lines are displayed to return to the caller.
  • Cancel an incomplete transfer. If you make an error when dialing and need to retrieve the caller, simply press the key beside the flashing arrow on the LCD indicator.

  • Park an incoming call. Parking a call at a designated extension allows the recipient to answer the call from any phone in the facility. With the caller on the line, press the "Park" key twice. If your system designates a particular extension for parked calls, the caller will be held at that extension. Otherwise, the caller is held at your extension. To specify an extension for a parked call, press "Park," dial the desired extension and press "Park" a second time. Replace the handset.
  • Retrieve a parked call. On any system phone, press "Park" and dial the extension on which the call is parked. You will be connected to the caller.

When I try to transfer a call, the call only rings on my own intercom button. How do I get it to actaully transfer to a different extension?

Make sure you do NOT place the call on hold before doing a transfer. While on the phone, press transfer then the extension, once done simply set the receiver down and it will transfer. If the person at the other extension does not answer and you have no voicemail system, it should ring your extension back.

We have a Norstar - Meridian M7310 phone system. Today for some unknown reason when an incoming call comes in, the ring is two short rings rather that the "longer" ring that we normally have. I have...

The two short rings is telling you that the call is either a transfered call (answered by someone else and transfered) or answered by an auto attendant and transfered. Watch the ringing phone when the call comes in and see if the intercom LED blinks.

How to use the to transfer phone calls

Call transfer on Norstar phones works by:

  1. Answer call
  2. Press the [Feature] [7] [0] (or simply press the [Transfer] button below phone display)
  3. Dial the number where you want to transfer the call
  4. Stay on line if wishing to speak to the person
  5. Press the [Rls] button to complete the transfer
  • If an external call is transferred to a busy internal or network extension, or is not answered after a few rings, the call automatically rings you back.
  • Note: Use Link to transfer callers to a telephone number

How to transfer calls between extensions

You have the ability to transfer an outside call to any extension within your phone system.
1. Press the [TRNSFR] button during your conversation
2. Dial the desired extension or press one of the Direct Station Select (DSS) buttons
3. One ring will be audible a transfer is successful. Otherwise, two rings will be heard
4. Any extension can pick call transfer
5. The Call Transfer mode will automatically cancel after 10 seconds if no transfer number is dialed

Can I transfer voice messages to a cell phone

Yes and no (or maybe)

Your Norstar system is capable of outbound call transfers... transfers to people outside your phone system.

Most instances, the programmers shut off this feature of out bound transfers to protect your system from fraud.

A programmer will be required if you need this feature to work.

Otherwise, try this... outside caller calls in, (you want to transfer caller to a cell phone), press the TRANSFER button, pick an outside trunk (Line 2), and dial out, when you hear ringing, hang up.

The call will be transfered to the cell phone.

Ring times

I know the time before transfer is programmed by the installer, but you MAY be able to set that CALL TRANSFER TIME in your particular mailbox. Listen to ALL the menu prompts.

Call will not Transfer to Voice Mail

Typically you want your phone system to ring your phones (say extension 10, 11 and 15) and then if no one answers after so many rings the call is transfered to the port the voice mail is on (let's say it's port 16) The voice mail is set to answer right away but does not "ring" until the call is transfered to it. This way (at 4 rings) if a call comes in on line 1 and you answer after 3 rings but a call comes in on line 2 at the same time, the first ring on line 2 will not make the total = 4 and set off the voice mail. I would guess the port at your voice mail is not set to ring and nothing is set up to transfer calls to your voice mail. Did you set this up yourself? How did you program the phone system?
