This is what you will recieve in US if you contact them. NO SERVICE. This is a respnse recieved to a complaint after they told me to pound sand the first time.

Thank you for contacting Sigma Corporation of America.

I believe if you were to purchase a Quantaray or even Tamron that was over 20 years old it wouldn’t be compatible with the DSLRs that are put out today.

You are not SOL if you reside in the US we can offer you a discounted rate on a brand new lens in exchange for the old one, something other companies do not provide, (I know because I have inquired personally).

I apologize and understand the position you are coming from but when you have a lens that you purchased over 20 years ago it was designed for and around cameras that were out then.

Technology is forever changing and more so has made drastic steps in the camera world from 20 years ago.

Cameras don’t just simply require a lens to mount and match up by fitting on the camera body to work, it has inner components, electrical contacts etc. that the newer body may not be able to read properly and yes this goes the same for the “name brand” (again something I have looked into myself).

As we have and still currently make over 40 different lenses for over 5 different cameras we cannot continue to produce parts and “store” them indefinitely on the chance that someone, someday might need that part that may or may not work still with the newer camera, unfortunately it is impossible (would be nice to do if we could).

We have made hundreds of different lenses over the past 20 years and there isn’t the room or market to continue to produce all the parts for the lens (as in some cases a simple “upgrade” doesn’t make a lens work).

The comparison of car parts to camera parts is completely different.

So we apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing with your 20+ year old lens and that we no longer have the parts to service the lens or that we cannot make it compatible but as a courtesy we do offer a deal in which it gives you a chance to upgrade your equipment much like you did with your camera.

70x300mm sigma zoom to be fixed after dropping it - focus does not work properly - seems the grears are stripped

That is not a DIY repair, you cannot even get the parts unless you are in the trade.

Sigma usually offer fixed price repairs so send it back. As part of the repair service they also update the lenses firmware as standard to ensure compatibility with later Canon models.

It sounds like a CPU chip incompatability issue. Sigma has that problem sometimes but are usually very good about rechipping at no cost (at least for Nikon-mount lenses). What did they say when you asked them?
