Troubleshooting nexgrill charcoal gas grill

did you replace the battery in the igniter?
less than 100 degrees indicates a safety has engaged, close gas valve, open burner valves.....wait 5 minutes. keep lid open, close burner valves, open gas valve until you hear the regulator click
turn on "ignition burner" and ignite (with switch or at specified port).
After this part is lit open other burners one at a time , waiting until each lights before opening the next.

Dec 07, 2013 | Nexgrill Charcoal and Gas Grill Combo

1 Answer

Used nexgrill for first time today. It's the combo gas and charcoal. Burners only lit like they are on the lowest setting when on high. Tried another propane tank and didn't make any difference.

The problem lies with opening the tank valve to quickly. This , then locks up the grill's regulator.

To solve this problem, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or hardware store that sells grills & accessories. If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I need to convert from natural gas to lp. I cannot find my owners manual. Is there one online I can download?

Contact Nexgrill and ask them for the correct orifices for your model grill to go from NG to LP. Once you have the correct orifices you will also need the LP tank and a regulator and hose. It is farily straight forward to replace the orifices. You have to remove each burner, take out the NG orifice and install the LP orifice.

I have a Jenn air model 730-0163 natural gas grille I need to convert to propane. can this be done and what parts and where do you purchase the?

As I told a questioner, yesterday. Yes, I believe a kit is available. If you purchased this Jenn Air grill from Lowe's, it was manufactured by Nexgrill Industries. Not Jenn Air. In any event, Lowe's no longer sells the Jenn-Air line of grills. My very best advice is to contact Nexgrill Customer Service @ 800-913-8999. In addition to the burner orifice parts you'll have to have, you will also need a grill tank Hose/Regulator Assembly.

Hope this helps and Happy Grilling!

I have a Nexgrill 720-0073 stainless grill. The grill doesn't get very hot - around 200-250 and the flame level is low (BOTH sides). Tried a new tank of propane - same thing. I cleaned the burners late...

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Things that cause low flames

1. LPG Tank regulator internally corroded and diaphram can not open enough to supply the correct amount of pressure. (replacement regulator required) If you do an tapping on the regulator disconnect it from the tank and if you do strike it... use WOOD! Tap from bottom and then from top.... several times. When your done... do it one more time. This may correct the problem for a short period but if it is corroded internally the problem will repeat in as little as a month.

2. The orifice holes are restricted due to spider webs insects ets. (Remove burner and Physically clean the orifice mounted on the back of the gas valve.) Worst case the orifice has to be removed and the mini orifice hole cleaned.

3. Clogged internal burner air / gas passage (remove again and clean) Use a tooth pick to clean main burner holes. Use spot tie or something long and skinny to probe into the burner air / gas passage. (Wire coat hanger works too)

4. The burner gas valves on the stem nut side are coated with grease not allowing full movement of the valve stem inside the gas valve. (remove and clean with engine degreaser)

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Bought nexgrill 3 or 4 months ago now doesn't get hot enough changed gas bottle and regulator and hose no luck

The new style2_bing.gif OPD valves have a small brass ring located in the female fitting on the LP tank. Over time this ring can work loose and then it does not allow the male fitting to fully depress the OPD valve thus reducing your gas flow
Using a small flat bladed screw driver tighten the small brass ring This should solve your problem
IF not you might want to remove the cap (white) on your regulator and try slowly adjusting the regulator, make small adjustments and try the BBQ My Weber if I set the front and back burners to MED I get right at 350 degrees in 60 degree outdoor temps. Adjusting the regulator will take some time to get it right but If it is not your tank it is most likely your regulator out of adjustment

Nexgrill Won't Stay Lit

Is this a patio heater or a grill? In either case, the first thing to replace is the regulator. If that doesn't work, I need to know if it is a grill or heater.

Grill jenn-air will not heat past 100 degrees

You need to pull the burners out and scrub open the side feedholes on the burner. These ususally clog up over time reducing the heat available for cooking. Also, sometimes the Gas regulator goes bad over time when left outside for a year or two. A bad regulator will put out less gas as it fails closed.
