Same problem. I have another C-720 camera to retrieve a working battery compartment door from, but I need some instructions on the proper way to do so. I would love to get my hands on an exploded parts view manual. I have 5 of these great cameras and would like to have a repair manual. Maybe I should just go ahead and do a complete autopsy on the sick one and learn how to take everything apart and put it back together? I bought a sick one off eBay for $6.50 to get parts from. It works fine, except it won't focus when you use the zoom.Same problem. You may want to call Olympus Customer Service and ask if this is a replacement part that can be purchased for the camera. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.
I have the same problem. I contacted Olympus and it is 29.95 plus tax to repair. Right now I am getting around the problem by holding the cover and controlling it as I open or close to make sure the camera turns off and on.
I purchased a second reconditioned camera from Olympus on the auction site for $35.00 and it arrived yesterday.
It comes with everything except a remote. The battery is the newer L12B. Considering the cost of a replacement OEM battery and the camera looks new, it seemed to be the best work around to having the camera repaired.
I keep it because I have the underwater case for this model and to buy a case for another camera is big bucks..
The switch is soldered to the circuit board. The tab portion of it is what you found after opening the battery door. I believe you would have to buy the entire circuit board to make that repair. Most camera manufacturers sell assemblies rather than small components. It would be possible to take one from another camera of the same type and transfer the switch. It is fairly delicate work.
I phoned the Olympus people for replacement parts 800-622-6372 and they shipped me a replacement battery door assembly for my Stylus 1010 camera. I only paid shipping.
The part came in three days and it was SO EASY to replace. You just need a tiny Phillip's head scewdriver and about three minutes. Remove the three small screws that attach the faceplate to the camera (one on the bottom, two on the side). The faceplate pops right off and exposes the hinge that holds the battery door in place. Remove the final screw that holds the hinge in place. Reuse the original spring, pop the new door in place and then replace the faceplate.
