Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop

In case you're not able to eject the disc using the eject button or you can try right clicking on the CD drive under 'My Computer' and clicking on eject.
If that fails as well, you can try to eject the disc by pushing a straightened paper clip or a pin into the tiny hole on front of the CD drive. You should be able to eject it using the last method.

It could be a few things but does not sound software related. 1.) The drive is bad (happens more often than you would think). 2.) No power to the cd drive (less likely)-The power cable attached to the cd drive has come loose or fallen off. You will need to open up the computer case to check. 2.) A cd is stuck in it (even more less likey)There is usually a tiny hole on the front of the cd drive that you can fit the end of a paper clip into. Push the paper clip in and it should force the cd tray to open. You will need to push the tray closed with your hand. Considering you can buy a new CD Drive for about $40 now, and the fact that more than likely the drive is bad, I would go out to Best Buy and get a new drive, and replace the one you have. If for some reason that does not work, you should be able to return the new drive to the store.

Perform a system recovery:
Does not come with recovery cd's - there is a program that allows you to burn the disks or
1. If in Windows - Start - Programs - Acer empowering technology - Acer E-recovery management -
click on Restore at bottom then "Restore to factory default settings"
2. Or click on Burn disks instead of restore
3. if unable to ge into Windows then Alt/F10 during boot right after Acer splash screen on startup

No driver works! Not from Acer and not from Realtek!
So stop saying that one should install these drivers. THEY DONT WORK! TRY IT YOURSELF!

You have done half the work toward the solution by removing the thumbscrews. The other half involves sliding a spring-loaded lever above the lower thumbscrew toward the bottom of the case. While the lever is slid toward the case bottom, push on the side panel in the same direction as the screws, i.e. toward the rear of the case. The side panel should slide just slightly, allowing you to then lift it off to access the inside. Note that when replacing the side panel, follow the above steps in reverse order.
When replacing the side panel, note that if the panel is not correctly replaced, the thumbscrews will not be able to be installed as the lock lever will not be set properly.
