SOURCE: Viking 190 sewing machine stuck on backstitch

Found the problem (s) with Viking stuck on backstitch!!!

Two problems:

A: machine is "gummed-up" form old grease.
Solution: degrease machine with a high quality degreaser.. I used a spray electrical degreaser from an automotive store. Turn the machine up-side-down to preform this!
Then relubricate machine. Use a high quality sweing machine lubricant! Also lubricate the inner parts with a qigh quality "Sewing machine" oil.

B: Found that the return spring from foreward to backward was tired.
Soultion: Replace with slightly stronger spring from local hardware store.

If you need pictures, I took very detailed pictures of the reverse mechanism and "return to forward" spring.

SOURCE: Viking sewing machine model 6430 will only sew backwards

Th cam stack gears have gummed up on you you can try getting the back cover off along with the side and soaking the machine down with wd-40 and running it while forcing the reverse button in and out if it breaks free try and soak up as much of the wd-40 as you can and then oil anything that moves. I know this may be discouraging but viking no longer supports this machine and you might be better off taking it to an older viking dealer for help.

SOURCE: Husqvarna Viking Sewing Machine 6020 sews in reverse

Take it in to be serviced by authorized Viking repairperson. I understand that for ~ $175 they will disassemble your machine, remove all the hardened grease from gears, calibrate the gears & set tension correctly, etc. A small cost considering these older mechanical sewing machines are GEMS and will provide you another 60 years of sewing bliss if taken care of properly.

Trying to clean under the bobbin case on Viking Emerald 183 and I can't get it out.

When looking at your bobbin case from the top you will notice the hook. Think of the tip of the hook as a clock dial. At 12:00 the hook would be behind the needle. Turn the hand-wheel is at 10:00 this will allow more clearance when removing the bobbin case/basket.

Emerald 183

alot of times when a sewing machine is serviced all they do is oil it and clean in the bobbin area, I would suggest having the sewing machine checked to see if there is something wrong with the motherboard.

My Husqvarna Viking Emerald 183 has always had a problem with the needle up needle down button - after pressing it once, it often sews anywhere from 3 to 20 stitches. More recently, the machine keeps...

There is a sensor on the upper shaft that recognizes the position that the machine is in. A small disk on the upper shaft that has sections removed from it will block the sensor trough some range of operation and not at other times.I have never seen this in a 183, but you may have a sensor that is misaligned so that it doesn't completely block or clear the beam of light. It will need to go to an authorized repair center for repair. Some of these parts are very delicate. Don't risk damaging something working on it yourself.

Where can i purchase a foot pedal for my husqvarna emerald 183 sewing maching?

Check your local sewing machine repair store. Sometimes when a machine can't be repaired, they ask to keep the parts and sell them as used.

sounds like an overload of some sort. Suggest you take it to an authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

If you bought the machine new the warranty may still be in effect.
