Question about Hayward H250FDN Low NOx Natural Gas Pool or Spa Heater
My control panel will only control the "up" button but not the "down" so I am stuck with a high heat (I am turning off the gas to save a HUGE bill!). I will replace the control panel, however... I want to know if there is a different type of control panel that will fit with this make/model that has better controls? My old pool heater used to have an "off" button so if the temperature drops below the lowest setting of 65 degrees it doesn't start up unwantedly if the gas is left on accidentally. Thanks!
Unless you have rigged your unit for remote control, this control panel is the only one listed.

would not suggest trying to manually light, its an electronic ign model so you may damage some wires with an open flame.try powering off then turning back on and see if display retuns to normal

The water is mixed on the back side of the heater and will exit the heater at 7-11 degres hotter than it came in. This will keep people from being scalded at pool side. So what you have sounds normal.

Sounds like it could be the membrane on the front of the heater. Unfortunately with this type of heater you need to purchase the entire motherboard to get the membrane. Lots of other manufacturers sell the membrane separately but not Hayward.

Both of those heaters are fine I prefer the Pentair for it's smaller footprint and ease of installation as you can turn it for access to plumbing. The Hayward is tougher to turn the exchanger on and you only have right or left as options for the plumbing to come out. Sta-Rite is still my favorite for installation being easy to plumb, wire and run gas to. It's very easy to change from natural to LP also.
Most heaters today are the same in reliablity and that is mostly up to you to keep the chemicals correct. Being in the business I always look to ease of install and access for repair.

Testimonial: "Thanks for info from an expert. Think I will get a pentair as they are sold in UT. Wholesaler doesn't even carry Hayward. So Techs aren't used to. "
LP is an error message refering to the low pressure switch. For more information about it please refer to your owner's manual here. If you decide to persue attempting to repair it yourself and need further assistance, please reply to this post with a new comment or start a new post with your specific question(s).
