Honeywell TH8321U 1006 - could not shut off unit

Was running my A/C today. Tried to set the unit to 76 but it went all the way down to 72 and kept running. My brother looked at it and he has a similar unit but could not figure it out. I set the unit to off, but it kept running and cooled down to 71. I eventually flipped the circuit breaker to stop it from running. What am I doing wrong?

Thermostat does not reach programmed temperature

Have you checked with a thermometer to see if the area is reaching the temp you have it set at? A thermostat has nothing to do with the temp in your house. If you have it set at a temp for Example ( 72 ) and it is not reaching that temp to shut off then you have a problem with your unit or insulation in house. If you set stat on cool at 72 and the house gets down lower than 72 then there is a problem with stat.

When gets to temp. shuts off and few mins later kicks back on it keeps doing this

make shur that the thermostat is not above the a heat sourse also some of the t-stats have a ajustment in them that allow you to change the on off zone for e.g. you set it to come on at 72 and it shuts off at 76, the more hight end modles are the ones that allow to to do that

Honeywell Thermostat RTH7400D

The thermostat will not cut off the A/C until the thermometer reading gets to 76.

If there is not a heat source near/behind the thermostat which is causing the thermometer to read higher than actual room temperature, it sounds like the thermostat thermometer is out of calibration.

There are ways to calibrate it, but much to involved to go into here.

One solution is to just set the thermostat at 80, knowing that it's really set on 76.

Another solution is to replace the thermostat.

the honeywell is just a thermostat.my guess is the capacitor went out in the condenser when you lost power.turn the temp down on the thermostat and hit the hold button.....if it does not cool, call a service tech.good luck!
