If you have a bottom drain in your pool, insure that the valve to it is in the open position. Next, shut off any water lines that come from your skimmer(s). Then, adjust your filter canisters main valve to the Backwash position and turn filter on. This will almost completely empty your pool..., if you let the filter run long enough.

If you do not have a bottom drain, then your probably better off using a sump pump.

Hope this helps,

There is usually a setting on the handle that says "Drain" but if not you can always use the Backwash setting to get all the water out of the pool or at least most of it.

How do I seal a pool leak

Pretty vague question.

Vinyl, plaster or fiberglass pool?

If Vinyl and you located the origin of the leak, use a vinyl patch kit.

If Plaster, there are underwater curing, 2 part epoxy putties available, but this like the above patch, will be a "Band-Aid" repair.
Better way: drain pool to the crack, hole or whatever sacrifice in the shells integrity, and then cut/enlarge the leaking area and use a white "Hydraulic, non/minimal shrink Mortar".

If fiberglass, use a fiberglass repair kit.

Now if you do not know where the leak is, that is a whole different arena. Do you know how much water loss you have?
Does it leak more when pumps are running?
Is water loss the same amount if pumps are off?
Any moisture around the equipment?
Any mushy areas in the landscaping between the pool and equipment?
Good luck

General Information You Should Know About Your Swimming Pool is one of the largest providers of swimming pool services in the state of Arizona and is expanding quickly throughout the United States.

Lots of questions arise that seem pretty simple to us, but we realize most homeowners are on a learning curve with their pools (especially first time pool owners!)

FYI- Did you know that proper water chemistry is the single most important way to keep your pool from turning green? That's right, with proper water chemistry maintenance, the water of your pool will stay clear even if you can't run your equipment. We have maintained pools for us to *6* MONTHS without running the pump!

FYI- In the high heat of the summer, your pool uses more chlorine than normal due to the intense strength of the Arizona sun. To keep a pool clear, a stabilizer chemical (much like a sunscreen for your pool), must be balanced to keep the sun from burning away all the chlorine.
FYI- Stabilizer is included in small amounts in all chlorine tabs, so a stabilizer build up can happen over time which causes the chlorine to not be able to work effectively. It is best to watch your stabilizer (also known as CYANURIC ACID) and make sure that the levels never get too high!
FYI- If you do not have regular pool maintenance and you want to know what your pool stabilizer level is, simply take a sample of your pool water to any local pool store and ask them to check it for you. If your stabilizer (CYA) levels are too high (stabilizer build up) this will require a change of water*.
*This can be done by draining your pool and refilling it with fresh water, or draining only a portion of the pool and refilling it, or as in the case of summer time heat, backwashing several time a day/week to gradually change out the water

FYI- Too little stabilizer will cause you to use more chlorine to avoid that condition, will require the addition of cyanuric acid.

I have a 20X40 rectangular liner pool and my kreepy krauly stays in the deep end of the pool. I think I need to adjust the weights. Where should the weights be placed?

The first weight from the cleaning head should be adjusted so the Kreepy sits flat on the floor with the system turned off. Then you can start moving the next weight until it starts climbing the hill to the shallow end. It may take a few times but if you get the weights set correctly it should work.

Drain this pool, give it a good cleaning and start over. Clean the electrolytic cell. Your 24" x 52" size pool holds 12,481 gallons of water and requires 310 pounds of salt at initial startup. You should set the timer to run 11 hours per day. If the low salt light comes on add 85 pounds. You need an owner's manual. You can download one here.

Spa emptying when pump stops

Yes, if you have plaster it will get a ring around it. I live in Phoenix and with the sun and heat it will hurt the exposed plaster.
I don't know how old your pool is but many of the ck valves on the market today are serviceable. Meaning you can open them and replace the gut or clean it if that is all it needs. So if you replace it go for the extra it takes to get one of these as it will make the future a nice place if this happens again.
You probally have at least two of these on your system one on the suction side and one on the return, and one is as old as the other. So you might want to do both at the same time.

When I run the heater I get a purple color on the pool surface

This is due to your PH or your chloriene. You will need to take water sampels to your pool store and have them check the water and get instructions on how to take care of it. If left unchecked this will cut through your heat exchanger and do other damage to the heater as well as stain youe plaster. Repairs to the heater could run into 1200-1400 dollars without acidwashing your pool. In Las Vegas the tempeture is running to high to drain the pool and that should wait till next fall. But you will need to adjust your chems as soon as possible. Water testing in most stores is a free service so please get it done soon.

Describe yourIn ground, 18k gallon plaster pool.

sounds like you have some bad bearings on either the turbine or "a" frames. this will cause the navigator to go in circles and coil the hose. also check the tightness of the left and right pods. you can pop off the white cap and tighten the screw with a 1/4" nut driver.

you can buy a turbine kit with "a" frames, that should get it back to "new" condition.

hope this helps...

Just got my pool repaster and need to turn on pump but for the last few years a big cloud of rust comes from the pool heater staining the pool. It's a Raypack heater, removing one of the panels looks like...

Rust is coming from the cast iron inlet/outlet header. Make sure your chemistry is balanced. If you winterize your pool, make sure the heater is completely drained. If you have an automatic chlorinator, make sure you have a chemical resistant check valve between the chlorinator and the heater. You can remove the inlet/outlet header and clean it before you start the system up. The copper heat exchanger should not emit any staining substances unless your pH is allowed to drop below 7.2, then you will see copper sulfate stains on your plaster (turquoise color).
