The rear brake light switch may be defective, dirty or need adjusting. It's normally attached to your rear brake lever arm by a spring and when you apply the back brake the spring gets pulled and it makes a contact in a spring loaded switch which illuminates your rear brake light. Sometimes these get fouled up by road dirt and don't move freely so do not operate how they should. Spraying with something like WD40 and cleaning it up may solve the problem but if not you may need a new switch. The switch should look something like this, hope this helped :)

What will make the back running lights not work but the turn signals do and the brake light don't work from the foot pedal but does work from the hand lever on a 2006 1200 sporster

Normally, on most Harleys, the rear turn signals are just that, and not running lights.
If yours DID function as running lights as well as turn signals, then check the bulbs.
If they're incandescent bulbs and not LEDs, they should have 2 elements, and 1 of the elements might be burned out.

As far as the brake light not working from the rear brake pedal, it might be the switch itself, or a wire could have came unplugged.

Most cars have a switch mounted to the brake pedal assembly and when you press the brake pedal down it pushes on the switch and completes the circuit for the brake lights. The parking brake has a different switch and circuit. Get a Haynes manual for your car it should have the location of the brake switch and how to test it. Good luck

Hummer H3 airbag light wont go off

Airbag light on in a Hummer H3 Dashboard???Here is the fix...
Start the engine of your car, set the parking brake, hold the regular brake pedal down with your right foot. Push down the parking brakepedal to its fully-applied position with your left foot. Now while you are still holding the regular brake pedal down. Quickly release the parking brake, Pull the bottom edge of the lever, located above the parking brake pedal, with the parking brake
symbol, directly rearward to release the parking brake. Make sure pedal snaps hard all the way back releasing the parking brake... If this doesn't work the first try, try it 3-5 times and it shall work... The airbag light will go off...

NOTE: The parking brake pedal is located to the left of the regular brake pedal, near the driver's door.

The parking brake lever is located above the parking brake pedal, with the parking brake symbol.

Shift lever will not move out of park. Engine is running, seat belt fastened, parking brake released, all doors hood and trunk closed, foot firmly on brake pedal. When the button on the side of the shifter...

you should hear a click from the solenoid when you apply the brakes. If your brake lights don't work, your shift lock release won't either. There is a bypass method for emergencies in your owner manual. Check fuse for brake lights. And switch on brake pedal

My car is stuck in park and I cant get the brake lights to work, this is out of the blue and never had an issue like this ever. I have disconnected the battery cable and pulled the fuse on this, to no...

I don't know for certain on this model and make car but many have a solenoid on the shift lever that holds it in park unless the brake pedal is pressed. Keeps people from dropping in gear without having a foot on the brake to hold the car.

Since your brake lights also don't work I would look into the brake light switch that is under the dash on the brake pedal. There could be one switch that operates both the lights and a solenoid if any.

Hi: I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4.3 The brake lights and turn signals don't work.... HELP

Sounds like you have a bad multiple function turn signal switch. A couple things to try With your foot pressing on the brake pedal, Press the four way flasher button up and down, press and hold it down, pull up on it, or wiggle it. If the brake lights come on during any one of those replace the switch. With the key in the run position pull, push, the turn signal lever slightly. If the turn signal or brake lights start to work replace the switch. Let me know if none of those work, they usually do, and I'll get you some more in depth diagnostic info.

I have to press SHIFT LOCK button to get lever out of PARK.(with engine on.) 2006 Toyota Hilux Dual cab 4WD auto

You have to place your foot on the brake before the lever can be released out of the park position . If this does n't work have a look and see if the brake lights are working when depressing the brake pedal . If the brake lights don't function , replace the brake light operating switch which is located just behind the brake pedal .

Tip : note the distance the old switch is adjusted in relation to the brake pedal before you remove it and adjust the new one to the same distance .

This is the most common cause of the problem you have described .
