Question about Sub-Zero 632 / S
Sub zero 700br2 underCounter unit. It works fine and cools nicely. Just suddenly it will shut down. I can start it up fine via the control panel. Sometimes it works for 3-5 days then just shuts down. What I have done: made sure the condenser coils are clean and lint free, turned the unit off for 10 minutes at the breaker to reset, when unit is on air is sucked through the coils and it gets warm - plus no problem on it working, reset it by holding the start button and temperature heard the clicking and reset, no error codes appear, or any codes at all. My thought is it is the thermistors and there are two of them to replace. Possible the temperature get too cold then just shuts off. I would appreciate your suggestions. Thank you Kevin
If this machine takes to much time to get to temp. Or doesn't shut off once it reaches the right temp then the board will sense a problem and shuts it down. It could definitely be a thermistor causing the problem. I work on tons of these machines. Onetime I fixed a customers machine that had a leak in the sealed system. I fixed and charged it with freon it was working perfect when I was there. The next day customer called the machine was off I went there couldn't find any problems. Restarted it same thing next morning it was off. Long story short the man had it so filled that it was taking to long to get to the right temp it was shutting down. So the next time it shut off I showed the customer how to restart it before it lost temp. Never had anymore problems.

If your unit is new enough to have an on/off button on the keypad, then put it into diagnostic mode by pressing and holding the "colder" button, the pressing the on/off button at the same time. the display should change and it should read a temp like 67r or 67e. you can scroll back and forth through the 2 temp readings by pressing the colder key. If the fridge has been running, the temp of the one ending in "e" should be no more than 38. If it is, then you most likely are low on freon and will need to have the evaporater replaced. The part will be covered under the 12 year parts warranty, but the labor will only be covered for 5 years.(from date of install, not date of manufacture printed on the lable) If you want to go into it more, take the lower drawer out and remove the 6 screws holding the panel to the floor inside the fridge, then slide out the floor panel. Look at the coils in there, and if you see a ball of ice on the left hand side, you have a freon leak and the above repair is what youll need to to. if its older than 5 years, ecpect to pay about$500 to have it fixed...it's a mojor pain. If its less than a year out of the 5 year, call subzero...theyll probably take care of it for you anyways. Good Luck!

get into diagnostic mode by pressing and holding either colder key, then pressing on/off. You can use the colder key to scroll through 5 reading labeled fe, re, f, and r look at the re temp. is it higher than 38? if it is you probably have a freon leak in the evaporater refridgerator (call sub zero...they will completely pay for this issue, even past the 5 year warranty) If the temp reads really low (like 10 on re or something) you probably have a bad fan or fan switch in the fridge portion. this unit has seperate compressors and freon for the fridge and freezer..hence the lack of problems in the freezer. hope this helps!

I have seen this many times and have fixed the problem many times. You may notice a ball of frost or ice build up in the fresh food compartment, This is because you have a leak in your evaporator coil and it needs to be replaced. It is a pretty costly repair but well worth it in consideration to what you paid for this unit or what the cost of a new one would be. Because it has less freon in it is why the compressor is running longer and causing message to pop up. Have the evaporator replaced in the section that is giving the issue and this will solve your problem with the unit.
