Question about Whirlpool LHW0050PQ Front Load Washer

2 Answers

Whirlpool front load washer LHW0050PQ4 will not wash/spin: after turning on all you hear is a click and then water entering, draining etc. but no washing/tumbling whatsoever. I tried disconnecting for 10mins, didn't fix it. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi,

Thanks for the response. I am not quite sure what's going on. If I set it on the Hand Wash cycle, then it'll spin/turn couple of times, then stop, turn a few minutes later, stop again etc but on some of the other cycles say Normal, it'll hardly spin, if it spins at all. It doesn't work consistently. But the water intake, dumping part seems to be fine. Any further ideas will be helpful before I attempt to take this apart, hehe. Thanks.

I am having the same problem with my washer. Water fills and drains but the machine does not spin or agitate. I can hear the motor running. Any help or info would be great as I really can't afford to pay repairman right now.

Whirlpool front load washer LHW0050PQ4 will wash not drain or spin

No spin, try these:

Using a multi meter check for continuity the door switch, which when bad may not allow agitation or spin. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically.

Check the clutch, brake assembly and transmission, one way to check for slipping is to get under the machine after a spin cycle ( this is if u get a lil spin but not much leaving clothes still wet) mix in a spray bottle a lil water and some dish detergent, then spray it on the clutch assembly ( the metal round pc. Connected to the tranny) if it sizzles and steams up then u know its bad and slipping. Another way to check clutch if u get no spin at all? Is to take it out and use ur hand to try and turn the inner spring assembly pushing it around the inside? If its very easy, it BAD should be hard to push by hand.

Next check the motor coupler which engages the tub and tranny to the motor. ( if its bad u usually get no wash or spin or very little of either)

Next check for a loose, worn or broken belt if belt driven.

On some front load models u may need to check the STATOR assembly.
The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

LHW0050PQ4 whilpool washing machine goes through wash cycle but wont rinse, spin or drain

According to the service manual, if the washer won't drain or spin the drain may be clogged.

I have whirlpool LHW0050PQ4 washer, after connect prower, start light is flash and hear click but no water in and is not working

Hello.

It can be tempting to ignore washing machine noises, especially if the machine is still working. But washing machine noise is not only annoying, it can also be a sign of serious damage. When armed with a few tips, you can determine what problem may be causing your washing machine to rattle, and what you can do to stop it.

1 Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.

2 Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.)

3 Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.

4 Clear the water pump from obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.

5 Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.

6 Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.

Thanks.

My kenmore washing machine allows water in but does not agitate or spin or drain. my guess is it is the motor, but could it be a bad capacitor?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Also see the following PDF Whirlpool installation and maintenance manual on top load direct drive washers. It has a troubleshooting section as well as testing procedures for many components.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

I'd try setting the timer to a spin mode and see if the motor works, Also try it in different wash modes, permanent press, short wash etc.

It does sounds (if the motor isn't getting power, and you cannot hear the motor at all) as if the motor or capacitor is the problem.

If you can hear the motor trying to turn, I'd check the motor coupler which transmits power from the motor to the transmission.

See the following for how to pull the cabinet on top load washers.
