- Its a HYDRODRIVE, that means NO GEARS. I think the splines are stripped on the pump shaft but I haven't had time to take it apart yet

Sounds like you have a gear or two chewed up. Sometimes these can be replaced, but with some models they aren't made so you can open them up and replace the gears. You'd have to have a John Deere dealer to tell you which one you have or contact the main company.
