Open Question

No Power I have an LG XDSS+ car stereo and it seems to have blown a fuse internally or something because it will not power up. I know the wiring in my car is sound because I have another unit connected which powers up ok. It there a way I can open the unit to check the fuse inside to see it thats the problem?

SOURCE: unit not powering up

There is a fuse located behind the control panel.

If that is good, or replacing it does not fix it, you may have a problem with the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95.

We have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: power is on but no sound in car stereo

First, get a small 9V battery and connect the leads to your speaker wires. You should hear a pop if your speakers are OK. Then I would check the radio itself and make sure all speaker leads are connected correctly. If this does not work, something is up with the output of your radio. If you are using an amp, make sure all connections are good and that RCAs are connected correctly.

Was fiddling with car stereo, accidently touched black and yellow wire, think I've blown something cos now neither stereo or central locking works! Please help.

Black is ground, yellow is battery constant power for memory (clock, station memory, etc...) you burnt the fuse for that constant battery power. Just check for burnt fuses

Nothing Works, or the Oven / Range / Stovetop Works Only At Certain Times:
1.Home breaker flipped or the fuse blown?Possibly an electrical surge has flipped the breaker. Check your breaker or fuse box and replace or reset as necessary.
2.Power cord plugged in?Grab the plug and wiggle to determine a good connection.
3.Power cord damage?Damaged rubber with wires showing through or the wire is being pinched can cause issues. Electrical tape is acceptable for covering damaged wires.
4.Aclicking sound could be something wrong with a relay. Check for any loose connections around the main control board on your oven. The click you hear is a relay losing power and switching back on. If the clock resets then something is causing power interruptions to the board.
5.
6.Even a bad relay door switch will hinder your oven from operating.

If your oven has internal fuses, a wiring or component problem could have caused a fuse to blow. A blown fuse is an indication that a component has shorted or failed, and the problem will need to be corrected. Most ovens that use fuses will have an indication of the circuits that are affected by a particular fuse. If an oven fuse has blown, then you should inspect the oven element and the associated wiring to determine the cause before replacing the fuse.

No power

For what amp, a Home stereo amp or a car stereo amp? Most car amps will not have internal fuses, but home stereo amps do have internal fuses. You will notice on car audio amps fuses are always plugged into the side of the amps or they have an inline fuse that is on the main power wire into it.
You have more than likely blown a Mosfet Power Transistor, very common in car amps, I'm fixing 3 of them right now with that problem. Class "D" Amps seem to have this problem on a regular basis and they are hard to get working again once they blow. You won't even see any evidence of the bad parts inside the amp either, old amps will fill your car with thick smoke and will have obvious damaged parts. Best bet is you will be looking at buying a new amp unless you paid over $500 dollars for it, it's not worth fixing, check the warranty to have it replaced by the manufacturer.

I have power going to the unit yet there is no display,a sony cdx-gt220,i know i have power because it is loading and ejecting cds yet no display.please help, its doing my nut in!!!!

I have a Sony CDX GT 530U. I had a problem with no display and I thought no power period. I did not try to install a CD, so maybe I did have power to the CD motor but no display. This was frustrating because I could get the old factory Nissan radio to power up and work so I thought I had a dead Sony unit. After a lot of monkeying around, I discovered I had blown a fuse while installing the unit (you should disconnect the negative terminal of the battery when installing the radio... which I thought I skip, that was a no no.). I had checked the auto fuses, those cheap little plastic fuses behind a panel below the stearing column inside most cars, at least all the fuses I thought went to the car stereo. Turns out I missed one that was labeled "Batt" or something like that, which was the constant power wire to the car stereo. There was another fuse for the Accessory power to the car stereo (the main juice went the key is tuned to ACC or Start position). Turns out the Sony unit display runs off the constant power, or at least the unit on/off button runs off the constant power wire, so even though the ACC power wire was live, the Constant power wire had a blown fuse and the unit would not turn on. Check all your fuses inside the car, I bet that's your problem. Constant power on my Nissan Sentra was a 7.5A fuse, while the ACC power ran off a 15A fuse, but your vehicle may vary. Good luck.

Stero not coming on

What kind of car do you have? This can make the difference. Many cars with small engines (eg. Geo Metro) simply do not generate enough power to operate the radio. Other times the car can generate enough power to support the radio, but when you plug something into the cigarette lighter/power outlet the radio shuts off because the car isn't powerful enough to handle both. The first thing you need to do is to make sure that the car's electrical output is sufficient to operate the radio, after that it would be a good idea to make sure that all of the wires are connected properly.
