To fix, you will need the following 2 links and Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 11 is not compatible with the VM-500)
http://a.b.vcdz.free.fr/vcdz/Virgin_Player_5gb_VM-500_setup.rarhttp://a.b.vcdz.free.fr/vcdz/PP5020.MI4The first link is a
zip file that contains the setup file for the VM-500 along with the user guide that explains how to resolve the "Oh dear! this player is a piece of junk" (okay, so I ad libbed). The 2nd link is for a critical file missing from the set up. The
solution is basically 3 steps:
1) Plug in your VM-500 into your PC and right click to select "Properties" and then select "Format" to clear everything out of the device to start from scratch.
2) After downliading the zip file from the "setup" link above, unzip and run the setup.exe program on your PC. It will detect the VM-500, install the firmware and the system folder and subfolders.
3) Using the 2nd link above, download the file PP5050.mi4 to your PC and then copy it to the system folder (not the subfolders) in your VM-500.
That's it! Your VM-500 should be all fixed and should bring up the "device tour" tutorial. -Hank
