The FDL code is a problem with the door latch. The clicking your hearing is the door trying to latch. There should be a tech sheet inside the washer. It's usually located behind the bottom panel under the door, or along the inside of the casing on either the left or right hand side. The tech sheet will have a list of error codes, procedures on how to perform diagnostics, and troubleshooting hints. One thing I would suggest is to open up the relay and try to clean the contacts.

I keep getting a flashing code, "Fdl" when trying to start my washer, preceded by a series of beeps

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error “dlf” or "fdl"means a door latch failure. To resolve this issue the door latch assembly should be replaced however, before doing that you can leave the washer unplugged for 30minutes so that it resets itself. In the meantime when it’s unplugged just inspect the door latch wiring to ensure all the connector plugs are intact and not loose or broken. You can access the door latch wiring harness by removing the top panel of the washer. To remove the top panel just remove the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, and then lift off. Locate the door latch assembly behind the front panel on the right hand side. Trace all the connectors from the door latch to the Central Control Unit (CCU) and make sure they are properly seated at both ends. If after doing this still the issue is not resolved then unfortunately you have to get the door latch replaced. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

We keep getting a f11 and fdl code on our whirlpool duet front loading washer. Also we can't get the door to unlock, any suggestions?

"F11" is a Serial Communications error code. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r666194-f11_error_whirpool_duet_kenmore_elite

The "Fdl" error code indicates a problem with the door latch, which may be the reason why the door will not unlock.

Now...before assuming you have any failed components, try unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). In many cases, these error codes are erroneous and can be reset in this manner. If the error code reappears following a CCU reset, then you have a legitimate problem.

Read through the link provided for pointers on how to troubleshoot the F11 error code. The two errors in conjunction with each other, usually indicates a failed CCU. The CCU controls the latching mechanism on the door. If the CCU is not communicating with the door latch correctly, the latch doesn't operate and you get the additional error code (Fdl).

You can trace the wires from the door latch to the CCU and unplug and reset them one at a time to make sure you have a good electrical connection as well. Do the same on the door latch end as well. To access, you simply need to remove the top panel of the washer. Remove the three screws in the back of the washer that holds the panel in place. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back and then lift off. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub in the top center of the washer. NOTE: Make sure you UNPLUG the washer while doing this.

If you need to retrieve your clothes and the door remains locked, there is a manual release you can use to open the door. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r622155-kenmore_elite_whirlpool_duet_door_jammed

I know this may be a lot to read through. Try the CCU reset first. This is the easiest option and doesn't require you to remove anything. Hopefully, this will correct your problem(s).

If you still have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Whirlppool front loading washer won't start, code FdL, door can be opened

"Fdl" is a door latch FAILURE error code. What the error is telling you is that something is malfunctioning with the electronic door latch and/or interconnecting wire or Central Control Unit. It is recommended that you check the wiring harness connected to the door latch or, replace the door latch. The following link explains how:

If you have any questions or concerns please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

KENMORE ELITE WASHER error (DL) then (F)

The "Fdl" error code indicates a problem with the door latch assembly. The clicking sound you hear is the door latch attempting to latch. If it fails to latch, the wash cycle will not start and the error code and audible beep will occur. There should be a tech sheet inside the washer. It's usually located behind the bottom panel under the door, or along the inside of the casing on either the left or right hand side. The tech sheet will have a list of error codes, procedures on how to perform diagnostics, and troubleshooting hints. It's strongly recommended that you leave the tech sheet inside the washer, so you don't lose it.

Repairclinic.com carries the door latch for about $50 and is listed as item number 1094190.

Searspartsdirect carries it for slightly less for about $43 and lists it under the "Door and Latch Parts" as item number 7 (part #8181700).

If you go to my profile and click on "Tips and Tricks" I have a posting there on how to change the door latch on a front loader. It's a very simple repair that any Do-It-Yourselfer can accomplish.

If you can't find the instructions you need, or need further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

ERROR CODE

Here are the steps to unlocking the door manually if clothes are still in the machine.
1.Unplug machine
2.remove bottom panel
3.Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the botttom of the door latch assembly
4.Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear dropped shaped tab
5. Gently pull down on the tab about a 1/4 inch or until a click is heard.
6. You may now open the door.

This code means the door lock mechanism has failed or the central control unit has failed. Replace the door lock mech. first. This should fix the problem. (before replacing anything make sure there is no obstruction around the switch or in the switch.) After the machine has been unplugged it may fix itself. if not replace door lock mech.

Error code

Fdl is a door latch error.  What it means is that the Central Control Unit (CCU), which is the main computer, has lost communications with the door latch.  If you can't hear the latch clicking when you try to start a wash, chances are the door latch is broken.  Sometimes they will click,  but the internal latching mechanism may be damaged.  If the door latch fails to close, the washer will not begin a cycle.  If you provide me with your model number (located along the inside of the door) I can get a part number, price and where you can get a replacement.  I can also give you step-by-step instructions on how to replace the latch.  This is a fairly simple problem that the do-it-yoursefler can accomplish with a little guidance.  Let me know.

F D/L and F11 error codes

I have a Kenmore (Whirlpool) front loader He3t that begin having the same problem after 2 years. I researched the problem and tried everything. The door lock mech. and all wiring was fine. Finally I stumbled upon a way to clear the error. (It still shows up once in a while.) The following has worked for me CONSISTENTLY about 25 times.
1) Remove top washer cover.
2) Disconnect the connector for the door switch on the control box.
3) Reach around and push any cycle button (normal, delicate, etc.)
4) Now hit the Cancel button.
5) Reconnect the door switch connector to the control box.
6) Reach around and push any button again. The clicking stops for me.
7) Replace the washer cover and use normally.

Hope this works for someone else!
There must be something getting latched up in the control board. And it gets reset.

F DL Error Code

If you were already experiencing the F11 error code and now experiencing the Fdl error, this more than likely is a failure of the Main Control Board. F11 is a serial communications error associated with the Main Control Board, while the Fdl error is either a failed Main Control Board and/or door latch. You can replace the door latch first to see if the error goes away, but I would almost bet you have a control board problem since you were already experiencing an intermittent error code associated to it. Let me know if you have any further questions.
