When machine is spinning it is banging around

You may have lost one of the counter weights in the machine , motor is then under strain , I wouldn't use as it may if not already could damage the motor and rod to drum

See if you can level out the unit. Sound like the case is responding to un-even pressures.

Most likely tub bearings and spider gear are bad.

Could be problems with the waste pump which could be at the bottom of the machine behind a flap. The fact that if you give the machine a thump and it starts working, could indicate it has a loose wire which can be extremely dangerous as it could short out to the washing machine casing. Or the motor has simply got dirt around the comm. (internals on the motor). If you have been spinning unevenly balanced clothes and the machine has had a bit of a jump around, then it is likely to be a wire. I have repaired washing machines which have had this very problem where the drum has been bang bang bang in spin mode and actually rubbed right through to bare wire on badly placed wires which were not harnessed out of dangers way. Alway disconnect from mains first before looking....electricity kills, especially I the presence of water. Good luck

1. Make and model of the washer?
2.How old the washer is?
3. Is it banging only at high speed or even on slow speed?
4. Is it only during the final spin or all the time during spin?
5. If you move the drum by hand, is there any noise? Could you turn the drum easily?

Usually this is an out-of-balance condition caused by too much weight on one side of the tub, move the clothes around and try again.

I assume it is not balanced. Try putting sponges under the feet of the washer.

make sure all shipping pins are out the tub should move all around from side to side if it level still bangs its eather the balance ring top basket are there 3 slides on a plate above the motor just put some silacone oil on tham move around
