Question about Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook
I have a acer and I not sure how to open the disk drive on it

Well it sounds to me like you are just trying to open the drive to insert a disk ? go to "computer" or "my computer" on the desktop, double click to open. you should see your hard drive "c" and cd/dvd drive "d" listed. right click the "d" drive, left click eject, voila. if you have more than one hard drive or a partitioned drive there might well be more drive letters but your cd/dvd drive will be marked as such. alternatively click "start", bottom left of desktop, click "computer" and once again you should see your drives listed. physically there should be , on the cd/dvd drive drawer itself a small button, push it once to open. failing all else, there should be a very small hole in the drive drawer, using say a paper clip or similar, insert into the small hole and push reasonably firmly, this should release the drawer manually and the drive will open. hope that helps. good luck.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire RAM
There are 4 screws holding the cover on the bottom of the computer that allows access to the RAM modules. (This is the same cover that also covers the fan. The same cover with the ventilation slots.)
Simply remove the screws and lift the cover by the indent to the right of the battery lock.

SOURCE: I cannot run any CDs
These are typical symptoms of the drive itself having failed. Usually it starts off not wanting to burn dvd's then not wanting to read them. It can still read cd's at this point but eventually has problems with these as well. You may have seen errors or a lot of activity that also took longer to do the same thing and so on.
What happens is the drives read/write head gets out of alignment over time. DVD's need the most accuracy and fail first while the cd's are much more tolerant.
Unfortunately the only fix is replacement of the drive. The cost of the drive from a online laptop or parts place will be $50-$100. This is definitely something you can fix. You need to remove ONE screw, pull the drive out, and put the new one in and put that screw back in. The drive just pops in. Probably took longer to type this than it does to change the drive ;-]
Have a look online for the drive and keep an eye out for instructions on replacing it so you can see if you are comfortable doing it. Most places will have a pictorial guide and some have online videos. It really is simple so you can do it. If you do a search for laptop repair parts you will find several web sites. Just look for your model to find your drive. If you aren't find the contact button and email them. Most places are quite happy to help. Some places will have used drives while other will offer new parts for about the same price.

1.start>control panel>all control panel items>AutoPlay
change settings for each desired media
2.update the drivers for the DVD drive. search in all programs for the program name, go online and download the most recent driver
3. you may have mulitple programs that controll DVD/CDR reading ability. this will sometimes confuse/conflict the drive. try removing one using add /remove programs from the control panel.
