Where do I fine SSID Name & Encryption Key

If you are trying to set up a router and need to establish the SSID name and WPA encryption key, you will need to sign into the router using the routers IP address. Input the userid and password, then go to the wireless network setup page. Here is where you enable wireless operation, establish the SSID, and generate the encryption key or passphrase.

If you are trying to connect to someone else's wireless network, you need to know their SSID so that when you do a search for available networks you can determine which is theirs. Once that is established, if they give you the encryption key or passphrase, you can attempt to connect to their network. With the encryption key or passphrase, you will not be able to connect.

Okay my names shane and i am trying to hook up my ps3 and i have a d-link wireless router and i dont know what the ssid is and i cant find it anywhere and i was wondering if there was any way you could...

If I understood it correctly, you need to broadcast your SSID from your router (alternatively, you want only to know your SSID; in both cases, go to your router configuration). There's an option to do that, simply go to the router address at from your computer. You'll be prompted to enter the user (which is "admin"); leave the passed field blank (unless someone else have configured it differently).
Hope it helps!

Connecting to a Wireless Network with SSID Broadcast Disabled when using Windows Vista & Windows 7 Article ID: 5451
Disabling SSID broadcast is another way to secure your wireless network. This will ensure that your SSID will not be detected whenever someone does a scan. When connecting to a wireless network with SSID broadcast disabled, you will have to create a profile.

Creating a Profile

NOTE: Disabling SSID broadcast is another way to secure your wireless network. This will ensure that your SSID will not be detected whenever someone does a scan. When connecting to a wireless network with SSID broadcast disabled you have to create a profile.
Step 1:
Right-click this icon kb_5451-001_en.png at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, then select Network and Sharing Center.

NOTE: If you are using Windows 7, just click once on this icon kb_5451-003_en.png at the bottom-right of the screen then select Open Network and Sharing Center.

On the Network and Sharing Center window, click Manage wireless networks.

Step 3:
Click Add. NOTE: You have to remove your preferred network before before you proceed to click Add a new connection. If you see your network has changed from Automatic to Manual, you will face difficulties to connect your computer on the network because the SSID is not broadcasting into the available network connection. After removing your preferred network and adding it back, the network will turn to Automatic and you will be able to connect automatically into your network. Make sure to look at network properties/Connection and check "Connect when this network is in range".

Just had windows 7 put on my machine, but have lost my network please could u tell me which nmber(and there is a few on back of Belkin) is my network security key please

The default wireless network name/SSID is found underneath your router. It looks something like Belkin_N1_Wireless_123456. If you cannot see the SSID in the available networks on your wireless computer, then you might have changed it to a different name.

Use a computer that has connection to the router to access the setup page. Use a browser and type in the address bar.

Go to Wireless -> Channel and SSID. You can change the SSID to any name that you want. Then make sure that Broadcast SSID is checked. So that the computer will be able to detect the SSID.

For the network key, go to the Security tab. If WPA is set, copy the Pre-shared key. If you are using WEP, you will need to take note of the 10 digits (64bits) or 26 digits (128bits) wep key.

I hope this helps!

I have a Sierra Wireless AC875U from att. I need to know what is its SSID! How can I figure it out? im logged into my att website and cant find it. Help!

Page 5 of this manual tells you how to enable the SSID broadcast - and the earlier pages explain how to enter these commands.

Alternatively if you go to your connections on your computer and scan for wireless devices - it should display your SSID (if it is already enabled)

If this has helped you, then please help me and vote kindly - thank you

Windows Vista won't connect to my actiontec

If you have disabled broadcasting of the SSID you will havw to tell Vista to connect even if the SSID is not being broadcast.
There is a checkbox on the wireless connection pannel for doing that and there is also that option when you setup the connection. If the SSID is not broadcasting Vista will not connect until you tell it to. You can check if that's the problem by enabling the SSID broadcast and seeing if it connects. If yes, then find that checkbox (sorry, I'm not on my Vista system and don't know all the steps to get there offhand) and mark it; then disable the router from broadcasting again. It should connect every time after that.

How to connect to wireless network using vista with SSID disabled

Normal 0 On your laptop, go into the “Manage Network Connections” and delete your network. On you router, disable the SSID. In the “Manage Network Connection” click the add connection button and enter the information about you network manually. Vista will tell you that connecting to a network that doesn’t broadcast it’s SSID is less secure and will ask you to verify. After that it will connect just fine.

The reason its less secure is because your computer will ask everything it can if its xyz network and someone with not-so-good intentions could say that its xyz network and you would connect to a insecure network and all the info that you pass on that network could be intercepted. Choose your poison I guess.

Good luck;

I wana put security code on my router what should i do?? no 1 can use this without my parmition...??

If you are not using the wireless part I highly recomment disabling the wireless part. Just log into your router web console, click on the wireless button, and select disable. If you are using it you can enable the security, change the SSID, and disable the broadcast of the SSID.

Also, be sure and change the default admin password. Write down the new password and store it in a safe place. If you ever forget it your can reset the router.
