SOURCE: WHIRLPOOL DUET DRYER

I've searched around for DIY instructions, but those are exceedingly difficult to locate. It seems that Whirlpool wants you to buy their Door Reversal Kit for 11.99 in order to accomplish this.

SOURCE: whirlpool dryer

The following link will give you some additional advice on how to troubleshoot a dryer:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385301-thorough_dryer_advice

Read through the link provided, thoroughly. It does cover many common dryer problems and how to diagnose them.

You know at this point that have power to the unit, because the drum light is working. Now...with the door open, does the light go out when you push the door switch in by hand? Is that how you determined the switch to be good? If the light does not go off, the switch may not be working properly and the dryer will not start. Another easy item to check is the thermal FUSE. The fuse is located behind the lower panel under the door. It is a white plastic component mounted to the top of air blower housing right under the drum in the front. There should be two wires going to it. If the thermal fuse is good, it should read a short (or close to zero ohms). These two first items I mention will kill a dryer from starting and are the most common problems to start with. Read through the section "Dryer Does Not Run at All" and let me know if require further assistance. I hope you find this information helpful.

SOURCE: Replace Dryer Door Switch

Have you checked the dryer belt? The belt can also prevent a dryer from running. In either case you will need to open the dryer to access both components. this is accomplished by lifting the top panel and/or removing the dryer front.

If the model number is correct, just follow these steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer and remove the lint screen.

2. Remove the two screws that were under the lint screen and lift the top panel.

3. Unplug the door switch connector plug and any ground wire that may be installed on the casing. The part number for a replacement switch is 3406107.

NOTE: At this point you can access and remove the door switch and replace a necessary. If you don't see the dryer belt wwrapped tightly around the drum, there's a good chance it is broken. Continue on with the next steps to replace the belt.

4. Locate the two screws that hold the front panel in place. There should be one screw on each side in the cabinet interior.

5. With the door shut, lean against the front panel and remove the two screws that hold it in place. Once the screws are removed, grasp the front panel at the top center and lift straight up to remove.

You should now have complete access to the dryer interior. If the belt is broken, this may cause the idler pulley (tensioner) to come loose. This is normal with no tension on the pulley to hold it in place. To install a new belt (if required) and re-install the pulley, follow these steps:

1. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

3. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Roper and refer to diagram H.

Replacement parts (if required) can be ordered on line at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The part number for a replacement belt is 341241. All these sites offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I have listed also inlcude helpful exploded view diagrams that can help you locate and properly indentify the parts you may need.

NOTE: If you still have the teflon glide type tensioner, Whirlpool recommends you replace it with a conventional roller type idler pulley. The teflon type tensioners caused premature wear to the drive belt. The part number is 691366.

Once you have the belt installed, re-install the dryer front panel by holding it as you did previously. Line up the holes on the inside bottom edge of the front panel with the small mounting cleats on the front edge of the side panels. This can be done by yourself, but an assist may make it easier. Once you have the front panel in place, lean against it to hold it in place and install the mounting screws.

NOTE: Don't forget to reconnect the grounding wire and door switch connector plug. Without the door switch connected, the dryer will not run. Lower the top panel back in place and reinstall the two screws.

NOTE: Placing a piece of duct tape over the dryer vent chute will help safeguard against dropping anything down in the blower fan assembly. If you drop any screws down the chute, you will need to remove the dryer back panel to retrieve them. If you have any questions about this repair, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Duet dryer is making a humming noise when cycle starts a d during

whenever i hear a humming sound in a dryer it's usually the motor or something caught in the blower wheel stopping the motor from spinning.open the door and see if you can spin the drum.if it spins by hand try this, open the door, push in the door switch with one hand, have someone push the start button while you hold in the door switch and spin the drum by hand helping it move,if it runs you have a bad motor,if it doesn't remove the bottom panel and see if the belt is broke and stuck in the motor but like i say usually it has something to do with the motor not spinning.hope this helps

Door switch broke

The drier will not operate without the door being secured for safety reasons. There is power running to the switch and once the door is shut and the lever,or the "spring" is pushed in it allows the power to turn on.Almost like a light switch. The door switch will have to be replaced. This is a very easy repair. The switch can be found at your nearest appliance store or online. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-dryer-door-switch-3406107-ap3132865.html
