Question about Canon LV-S4 Multimedia Projector

Smoking Canon Projector and Dim picture

I called Canon and they are very concerned about their projectors smoking. I have had it for only about 2 1\2 years and is still under warranty. It started smoking while watching a movie and it smelled bad. I checked all the screens that filter the air coming into the projector and they were still good. I checked the bulb and it appeared fine, but Im not an expert. They are going to have a customer relations person call me tomorrow, hopefully they will fix or replace at no cost.

Is there suppose to be a fan that blows while it is running? Most projectors have a blower otherwise the bulb overheats. If the fan runs do you have something like a book or something that is blocking it?

SOURCE: Projector does not turn ON

try removing the lamp, usually quite easy, you need to find the door for the lamp. lamps are customer replaceable, usually. If the lamp is bad you can usually see it damaged in the lamp. kind of like you might be able to see the broken filament in your normale house hold light bulb. good luck.

SOURCE: canon lv5210 projector

This link allows you to download the manual. if you need it; page 41 especially worth a look page 43 gives all details for lamp replacement if you still think is the problem. Almost certainly the problem is to do with overheating - which is either a bulb problem or a malfunctioning fan. See if the fan runs when you turn it on and check it is clear. Hope this helps :)

White spots

It may be the DMD chip. Do you get the spots on the display even when there is no source connected? Are the spots multiplying? If so, then it is the DMD chip. If it is under warranty, then ship it back. Also, if the projector is less than 5 years old, you could get the chip replaced for free. Some DMD chips have a 5 year warranty that are still good even after the projector's warranty.

Can't get my epson 450wi to turn on shows red

What shows red? If all 3 lights are flashing red you are out of luck. If it is under warranty call Epson. If your warranty has recently expired I would still call Epson. This is a "known issue" for this model projector.

There was a sudden noise in the projector followed by smoke and the projector is not working at all now

Dosn't sound good. There are many tiny components that could have attributed to this. Maybe the device got surged, who knows. If it is under warranty in any way, now is the best time to use it, most warranties cover surge/wear and tear. If it is not in warranty in any way, then open the projector and replace everything that got burnt out, aka, take it to one of those repair shops you see in the strip plazas. Sorry i couldn't be of more assistance

The projector has a redish purple tinge on screen. This has been like it and when bulb was changed has remained. I was told this is to do with the LCD prism. The data projector has been running for...

Hi Mark,

It sounds like this is a non user repair. If the projector is out of warranty it may be more cost effective to replace it than repair it as you will be billed around £75 + courier charges for someone to take a look, plus any additional charges. A simple internal cleaning may help. LCD projectors have open optics so dirt, grease, smoke etc can get in and cause staining.

The UK Sanyo repair agent is multicare in Leeds. If you are lucky this projector was supplied with a 3 year warranty and which may still be valid as it's not a particularly old model.

Best of Luck.

Memry card error

I asked the above because some model's of older Canon cameras (such as the S400) would be repaired for free by Canon with this error.

But just noticed that you said the camera was new. If it's less than a year old Canon will repair it for free under the camera's warranty. They're very quick about it too, and usually include free shipping. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.

Canon Power Digital shot SD30, when you turn it on the screen is blac

Have you hit the display button? That's the first thing to try before calling Canon for their free tech support.

You may qualify for a deeply discounted upgrade if you are beyond the one year factory warranty.

If you are within your one year warranty, it may be something that can be repaired under the terms of the warranty.

Hope this helps!

Optoma hd72 bulb turning off

This is NOT a bulb problem unless your "lamp" LED is lit, which you say it is not. Many people have reported this problem with the Optoma 72. You can send it in for warranty service (it has a 2-year warranty) to get the lamp controller chip replaced, but the problem may recur. Optoma does not appear to have a permanent solution to this problem. My projector has broken exactly like yours TWICE in a year. I haven't even needed to replace the original bulb yet. :(
