Re: hard drives

same problem with my xbox 360 disc read error. tried reformatting hard drive did not work tried initaly set again did not work. the only thing that works is t physically remove the external hard drive but, having to do that is a bunch of bull you cant use your profile and you cant go online with out it. we spend so much money on something that is suppose to work and fails. it makes me want to go back to playstation 3 and forget that there ever was an xbox, because micro soft is not willing to do anything to correct the problem.

The hard disk data base will be rebuilt. AN error occured during the rebuild. The disk must eb formated

Sounds like there are bad sectors on the hard drive. Try quick formatting the hard drive and see if it goes all the way thru, if it does then try saving games on it and reloading the saved games, if it does then the hard drive is good. If it doesnt then the hard drive is bad. If you can't get the hard drive to format then that means the hard drive is bad and you would need to replace it.

you have got a hardware problem with your console, please check if your PS3 is facing overheating problems or not, If your PS3 is still under warranty make sure you use some compressed air to clear any and all dust out of the system. If Sony gets your machine and there is too much dust they'll say sorry and void your warranty

Check if dusting off the console and power connection works or not, if this does not work you can try following steps to address the red flashing light problem

1. Pull out your hard drive from your PS3

2. Connect the hard drive to your PC

3. Do a FULL format, not a quick one (a quick format just formats the boot section and root directory of the hard drive, and not the data on the hard drive. We want the hard drive blanked out). Make sure to do it in FAT32 (if you can). To format the HDD you'll need to go to Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management. This has an older windows feel to it, but on the left hand side you'll see Storage, under that (you may have to click and expand it) you'll see Disk Management. Click on that, in the middle window will come up the hard drives.

You should see it there (It'll likely have a series of letters, followed by numbers). You may not be able to format it into FAT32 format with it being such a large disk drive (windows doesn't like giving you any non-MS file format for large disks). But doing a NTFS format should work. There are a few programs that will allow you to format it into FAT32 if you can't with that program.

4. Put the hard drive back in the PS3 (be ready with a USB thumbdrive with the system software on it).

5. Hopefully, your PS3 will boot up, and prompt you to install the software on to the hard drive.

6. Time to download all your stuff again Then, back to gaming

If the above steps do not help, please send your console to Sony Customer Support for repairs

I have a corrupted file on my ps3 and it trys to repair it self after 30 goes right back to the same screen. HELP!!!

Your problem may be more widespread than just that one file. The file system on your hard drive may be corrupt. You can try to reformat the entire hard drive in an attempt to remove all the errors in the PS3 data, or you can buy a new hard drive. You may have to replace the hard drive if the hard drive is failing, and therefore not reading or writing data properly.

To reformat the drive, in the PS3 menu:
NOTE: This will erase everything you saved on the hard drive.

1) Go to the Settings menu, then select System Settings.
2) Select Format Utility, then select Format Hard Disk.
3) Select Quick Format

To replace the Hard Drive, buy any 2.5 inch notebook hard drive that has a serial ATA connection. Then remove the old hard drive from the left side of the PS3 and install the new hard drive.

After installing the new Hard Drive you will need to format the drive. When you turn on the PS3, you will see onscreen instructions to help you with this.

Error msg: to play this disc put in xbox 360

the Laser In The DVD Drives Failed.
Try a CD/DVD to see if it will read A single Layer DVD, Rather than the 360 Dual-Layer Disk.

You might try a laser head cleaning CD Disk.

Or requires drive replaced et,c. ** This is not swappable And should Be caried out by """ An Xbox 360 Drive Replacement Specialist, As the dvd drives logic board is paired to the Motherboard, And therefore have to be re-matched.

More PS3 Hard Drive Problems

probably you have got problems with a sector of your Hard Disk .
try formatting it via a PC platform, then use windows to verify possible errors (if any, it will try to fix).

else, try using a new hard disk and if it's new, turn it back to the store you bought it ,

When a disk is inserted, an error message comes up saying that it is unable to read the disk. We tried a disk cleaner which didn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you take the console to a game store and get them to have a look at it, it sounds like there might be a fault with the CD drive or the laser not reading the discs properly

Hi my name is Juan not all 360 have a hard drive on it look on the model # and see which one you got the core model has no hard drive and this is probably why is asking you for a memory card or usb drive so the best solution is to go to settings and see if you have a hard drive and if you do you can probably formatted and see if this way the system will detected thanks and good luck

Platstation 3 hard disk error

It should have formatted with your ps3, even if you formatted the HDD on your laptop it would have asked you the same thing, since the PS3 asks you that so it can install some folders for the pictures, games music etc.

your problem could be caused by faulty HDD installation, a faulty HDD or a broken ps3 that cant read HDDs anymore.

I would make sure the HDD is installed correctly, if that doesnt work I suggest buying a new HDD. If both of those dont work then you have a Ps3 that has a trouble reading HDDs
