I generally use household ammonia and an old toothbrush, rinsing thouroughly in clean water, and drying them thoroughly. And I do mean _thoroughly_, as-in bone-dry, use a hair dryer if in-doubt.
Putting anything wet, or even damp into a high-voltage environment is contra-indicated.
If I can be of further assistance, let me know. If this solves the issue, please rate it accordingly.
Thanks in-advance for using Fixya.com,

If the plates have arced through, it could have also fried the high voltage transformer board. The high voltage board sits between the fan and the ozone assembly on the bottom of the unit. If the little orange light that is illuminated when the sanatizer is operational, is not illuminated, it is a problem with the high voltage board. The light feeds directly from the high voltage circuit board.
High humidity, and/or cleaning out the screen filter with water and not drying it completely before re-assembling the unit can cause problems with the high voltage transformer circuit since it is exposed to the air flowing through the unit.
If you do decide to take it apart, make sure it is unplugged and un-powered before you work with the high voltage. High voltages are hazardous to our health =)

SOURCE: i just replaced the ozone
Hopefully, this is a very simple fix!
1) On the front of the machine, in between the manual controls on the right side, there is a tiny button that says "reset." While the machine is running, push that button. Then turn the machine OFF completely and leave it for a minute or two. Reactivate the machine, and the "new plate" message should disappear. This is most often the problem.
2) If it still doesn't disappear, it may mean that the plate is probably not inserted correctly. Unplug the machine. Remove the back guard and screen. Make sure the plate is fully inserted in the little grooves, both top and bottom, and that the pressure fingers are pressing firmly on the screen portion on both sides. Reassemble the machine and the problem should be resolved.
3) Last possiblity, if #2 doesn't work: The plate may be broken or corrupted in some way. Inspect it carefully for any cracks, broken screen, loose mucilage, discoloration, scorching, etc. If you find anything wrong, it must be replaced by a new one. If nothing looks broken, wash it in 1:1 solution of PLAIN ammonia/water, scrub with soft toothbrush or veggie brush, rinse well, blow dry. DO NOT USE any cloth or paper to dry it! Avoid touching the screen with fingers. Reinsert and try the machine.
4) If the readout still does not respond and change, you'll need help from Vollara (EcoQuest new name) customer service 800-989-2299.
