Question about Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
I purchased this tv at an estate sale this afternoon for $150. I noticed the pink tint; however, it also had a sign attached which read "Needs New Bulb - $300". I figured he was being honest about the deficiency so I purchased it. After reading all of these expensive problems with light engines, etc. I am very concerned. I found a bulb on eBay for $109 and I pray this puts an end to the PSS. Whatcha think?
I recently read through all articles on Hitachi light engine issues. The "Pink Blob" is related to bad light engines. If you have a uniform pink hue on screen: turn television input to input channel that is not being used (should have a blank screen) shut tv off. Have television off for 2 minutes hold input button and turn on television. Let go of button after5 seconds. Television will have service menu on it. Hit menu on remote, this should bring you to 2nd page. Scroll down to Mem init box w/ remote. Hold joystick button to right til check mark is seen on square for mem init. Let go of joystick and this will re initialize memory. This fixed my pink hue issue and I did not need light engine. Remember to change your input to that of an unused one. Otherwise you will not be able to reinit memory.

Your problem is not the bulb, it's a defective light engine and Hitachi is aware of it. Replacing the bulb will not fix the problem. You will have to have a certified tech come out and confirm the problem before Hitachi will own up to it and send out a new light engine. They will pay for the part (around $1500) but you will have to pay to have the tech come out and the install. It cost us about $500 total. It was worth it to us because we paid $3600 for this TV about 3 years ago. If you only paid $150, does not sound worth the cost. You will be wasting your money if you get the bulb first. Good Luck.

Tips for a great answer:
May 06, 2016 | Sony Flat Panel Televisions
Jul 06, 2014 | Sceptre X400BV-FHD 40 in. LCD TV
Oct 03, 2012 | Samsung LN46A550 LCD TV
A discolored screen, such as pink in your case, implies either:
1.) The motherboard and/or video processor of the TV has malfunctioned.
2.) Your input device is rendering the pink screen, such as a video game console for example.
If you determine that your input is not the reason for the pink screen then you need to contact Samsung for a warranty replacement.
Samsung offers a 1 year / 12 month standard warranty, and some of higher model TV's have a 3yr / 36 month warranty.
You can find out your warranty information by going to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/#
Also if you have purchased the TV in the last 30 days you can purchase a Squaretrade warranty which will refund the price of the television if they can not fix it. www.squaretrade.com
I hope this helps! Thank you for using FixYa!
