Question about Eureka 6993 Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Eureka 6993 power switch will not stay on

My Eureka will start but once I let go of the switch it cuts out. If I tape it down it stays on. Furthermore I am trying to open up the unit and other than three external screws there seems to be no way to open it up.

My Eureka Altima 2961 won't switch on

  • The first thing to try is the fuse. The best way to do this is swap the machine's fuse with that in your kettle's plug - this should also be 13 amps as on your machine. Also, it is possible that there has been a power cut; even though these are rare they can happen, so do not dismiss this possibility. There may be a problem with the electrics in your house, or the socket that you are using - try another one - or a trip switch may have activated. These should generally only be checked by a suitably qualified person! The final thing to try is to move the cable and see if the machine will come on. If the machine comes on then you will need to contact the manufacturer for further advice as this indicates a fault. You've tried all the above checks but still no power. This is where it becomes likely that the thermal cut-out safety feature has activated. To protect the motor, most vacuum cleaners contain a system that switches the unit off if it becomes too hot. This system won't allow the machine to be switched back on again until the motor has cooled down. Most thermal cut-out systems need you to leave the machine unplugged for about 2 hours. To check this for your cleaner, review the user guide supplied with it. Once you have found out how long your machine has to be left for, it is time to consider why your machine has overheated and the steps to prevent this recurring. Vacuum cleaners essentially draw air in, through a series of tubes and a dirt container or bag and then expel clean air through their exhaust. If this flow of air is interrupted then the motor will have to work harder to try and pull the same amount of air through the system, to maintain the suction performance. This is usually accompanied by an increase in the sound that the machine makes. After a while, the cleaner will reach a certain temperature and will switch off - the thermal cut-out has activated. Think of it like someone putting a hand over your mouth and asking you to breathe normally!

Eureka multicyclonic will turn on but not stay on

check for plugs, if not plugged could be a switch or a cord short.

Eureka powerline umc-18 vacuum quit working

The Motor has locked up due to over heating. Once that happens the only way to go is either replace the motor drive or get a new cleaner. Do not try and keep energizing the Vacuum as you could blow circuit-breakers or start an electrical fire.

The power paw on my vacuum machine is not working.Eureka ez kleen

The filter is not the reason it's not working. Take out screws and open Power Paw, remove fur from the roller brush on the right side, there is a small gap where fur winds around tightly, cut off with scissors or pull out with a small toothpick.

Power button won't stay on. If I hold it down, it sucks fine, but it won't stay pushed down.

Take it to a local vacuum repair shop and have them replace the power switch, once you do that your machine should be back to normal

Eureka 5892BVZ ON/OFF switch burnt

COUNT ME IN ON A CLASS ACTION IF ANYONE KNOWS A GOOD LAWYER.
Here's my story, posted on other solutions here, especially on the Model 5893; many people with burned wiring and switches. Major fire hazard imo! Okay, here's the skinny on my upright Eureka POS vacuum:
Had a problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless kinda starting and stopping. Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871.
