To resolve this issue, remove the network bridge. To do so, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click My Network Places. 2. In the left pane, click View Network Connections. 3. Look for any connection that is bridged. 4. Right-click the bridged connection, and then click Remove From Bridge. 5. Repeat step 4 for each connection that is connected with a bridge. 6. When the bridge is removed from each network adapter, right-click Network Bridge, and then click Delete. 7. Click OK. When the all the bridged connections and the network bridge are removed, the broadband hardware is automatically detected.

With a cable broadband connection, the cable line comes into the cable modem. The cable modem does the work changing the cable signal to a network connection and sends an I.P. address to the computer. With some cable internet providers you can hook the network cable into the in port on a router, wireless or wired, then hook up computers to the router. At this point the router gets the IP from cable and uses it's own IP routing for your internal network. Some broadband providers control your access by the computers mac address which registers with the vendor. If this is the case then the easy way to make it work is to get a router which can clone a mac address so the vendor still sees the same mac address.

Try running the Microsoft updates or getting updated drivers for your wireless NIC. It's even possible that the wireless card in the laptop doesn't support WPA security. Unlikely seeing as how the board is fairly new, but possible. You might also want to try getting a PCMCIA wireless card and popping that in.

To check to see if wireless is enabled, go to start, settings, network connections. That is where its at in Win XP, if thats not where it is on your computer, go to start, search, then search for network connections. In WC you should see a wireless adapter listed, it will either say enabled or disabled, if its on, disable it and reinable it. To check your router settings, you will have to open internet explorer and type in the ip address of the wireless router. Instructions on how to do this are included with the router. If you no longer have instructions, it will often list how to do it on the manufacturer website.

Local area connection is meant for wired LAN connection. you can connect the internet using a straight clable wire.
on how to make a straight cable, below is the link
But as you have said you can connect using wireless, then in wireless adapter setting,
Assigned your IP address Plus Subnet Mask address.
Set your wireless access point IP address as your Default Gateway Address.
In Primary DNS address as provided by your Internet service provider.specify secondary address too,it available.
If DHCP server is available then you don't need to configure anything.
If you are trying to browse internet through a proxy server than Go to internet Explorer,Click "Tools", Select "Internet options ", Select Connection, Tick Proxy server and specify the IP address of your proxy server and the port.
you will be able to browse Internet now.
